I'm thinking about applying there because it has a great music program, does anyone know more about it? preferably if you have been in the program.

Or if you know things about Westover in general, I would appreciate that, too! :)

commonly referred to the westover leftovers in the other girls schools. not a very prominent or important school among us, though if it’s music you want, westover might be good for that. same with ethel. just a thought. thats all i know, you asked for anything

Any Westover students/parents/alums know anything more about the school?

Compare to other girls school, about where does Westover rank (top, middle low)?

My neighbor is an admission officer there. :-)

Westover is a well-regarded girls boarding school. It is a small school, so you should want to be in a small environment. Years ago I went to an event on campus, and it was attractive and well maintained.

do you know if there’s anything unique about Westover?
I know that its music programs are great…

Westover has a program for Women in science and engineering. So if that is something you are interested in. i am attending this year.

Hmm… The perspective I’ve heard from several Westover families is that it is comments like emmers44’s that make many people PREFER Westover over some other schools. While Westover may admit a slightly higher % of applicants, there are many brilliant students who chose Westover because they found a welcoming and supportive community that was also academically rigorous.

I’m an alum and loved it. It is small. The community is friendly and nurturing. Girls are very high achieving. There is a program with Manhattan School of Music that is very attractive to student musicians. The Women in Science and Engineering was one of the first of it’s kind and has received wide recognition.

When I applied to Westover, I also applied and was accepted to Miss Porter’s, Emma Willard, Hotchkiss and Taft. I chose Westover for all is had to offer and for it’s size and for it’s size and community. Today, my closest friends are still the ones I made at Westover. I also continue to stay in close touch with my teachers. It’s really an amazing place.

I am a real fan of Westover although my daughter is at Hotchkiss and loves it there. One of the things that I found impressive at Westover (and there were numerous things) was that the school does not rely on the “triple threat.” Teachers are teachers, coaches are coaches and dorm parents are dorm parents. At most schools, individuals have to do all three and the school has to balance academic and athletic gifts as they are choosing faculty.

I was also impressed with the number of National Scholastic Creative Writing winners they had had for such a small school as well as the number of National Merit Scholars.

Good luck.

I currently have 1 daughter (sophomore) at Westover and another applying right now. Our daughter is very into the engineering and sciences than music - but I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
The academics are VERY strong with solid personalized support from the staff. A friend of ours started there last year, mostly interested in dance and theatre and was shocked to discover that she now likes math. The best of both worlds…
