Know dorm placement July 12th?

Mine just says dorm - estimated charge

What is everyones estimated charge for those of you whom it states such and not a specific dorm room?

I requested a single, and am REALLY hoping I got it…

Mine says estimated charge, 6885, too. If you compare it to the rates listed online its a little high for any of them unless we all have single rooms. NYU just put high estimates so people don’t under budget.

TO ALL NYU FRESHMEN:

I emailed nyu housing to ask what the $6885 housing cost in my Bursar meant, and they said having $6885 means that you haven’t been assigned a final housing assignment yet.

Your final housing and costs (and probably roommates too) will be given on August 1, and you will also be given instructions should you want to make room changes.

I hope this helps clears up some stuff =)

It does not make sense that the final date to cancel housing is July 16 but we don’t know what that housing is or the cost until August 1.

I posted this earlier but I guess it didn’t work. If it did- sorry for the repeat. My son applied to the Comedy Explorations at Weinstein. His Bursur activity says Weinstein and $7035 for cost. That coincides with 1 bedroom shared suite. I thought the meal plan was part of the dorm fees but I see I was wrong on that. Anyway, he did not ask for a single room. He originally applied for low cost (in the AC dorms) but as soon as he saw the explorations program he wanted to apply. We actually got an e-mail saying that NYU was impressed with his application for explorations and they could not accomodate low cost. They wanted to make sure explorations was his first choice. He checked about 2 weeks ago and it said Weinstein and had a suite mate assigned. I checked and that suite mate is a junior. I called NYU because I was confused. I thought Weinstein was a freshman dorm and the explorations program was for freshman. Maybe his suite mate is an RA? They told me they couldn’t confirm anything until at least July 12- or 13th. Then they took all that off the screen because they didn’t realize students could find out earlier. I’m just concerned because his room is now the second highest price for a room. It’s $2100 more than the other rooms at Weinstein. I don’t know what to think. He is coming a long way to school and I’m afraid he’ll stay in his room all the time by himself.

So- did anyone else apply for Weinstein Comedy?

I just spoke to someone from NYU housing. She said that although bills may be available soon, actual room charges won’t be available until August 2nd. This means that if you choose to pay the bill before you know the exact housing charges, you will be reimbursed the difference (since the estimated amount is only an average). She did give me some exact information regarding dorm charges for the 2010-11 academic year:

Double rooms for Goddard, Hayden, Weinstein, and Founders: $5948/semester
Double rooms for Brittany and Rubin: $4675/semester

This represents a small increase from the 2009-10 academic year ($88 more/semester for Goddard, Hayden, Weinstein, and Founders and $69 more/semester for Brittany and Rubin).

It may be worth it to wait until August 2nd when you know which dorm you’ve been assigned to in order to pay the correct amount and not have to deal with reimbursements.

do we have to pay the whole price for the semester at once or can we choose to pay it in parts?

I believe that NYU offers monthly payment plans. Check with the bursar’s office for details.

Thank you for the information OHS1979. I wish I could find out earlier like a lot of others, but I guess I’ll have to wait until August 2nd.

Glad I could help, Billy! I just noticed on the NYU website that you can pay the semester bill in 3 installments if you sign up for this method of payment. They charge you a $50 fee to do it this way, though.

We just got the bill today–it’s quite a shock to see the amount, even though we knew it would be high. It may be time to start buying lottery tickets!

I was at the Bursars office today. The dorm amount isnt final yet because not all housing has been assigned. Once you know your dorm for sure they will adjust the bill (either making adjustments on your loan for more or reimbursing the money if your dorm is cheaper). They take an average of the likely dorm costs to get the estimate (which I found out when I went to the housing office…long day).

My estimated housing charge is $7,823. I was wait-listed for hosing, but then given guaranteed-non-renewable status. Within the little line of text I was given to describe anything I wished to convey to the housing staff, I specified that I wanted a single. I HOPE TO GOD I GET A SINGLE. Does anyone think or have any information in terms of how your estimated housing charge correlates with your actual housing placement?

According to NYUs proposed undergraduate hosing room rates, this price is in line with a single bedroom dorm (shared suite)

@imfrickenfoofy

My bill has the same amount, but I didn’t apply for a single. I called the Housing Office last week, and the woman said that it was a generic charge because they haven’t finished room assignments. They are taking FOREVER. She also told me that we most likely won’t hear about our housing until the first week of August.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want a single so badly?

D is going to NYU-Gallatin this fall.
Her friends from Boston (about 10) already got their housing assignments, some were not ED. It is making her and us parents worried about how disorganized this housing seems to be.

I AM GOING CRAZY I FEEL LIKE EVERYONE HAS BEEN ASSIGNED BUT ME. Is there any way I can find out? my current activity still says estimated charge

Don’t worry- most people have not been assigned yet. I was told that other than ED, only students that appled to the exploration floors, Goddard or low cost housing were assigned. So the majority of students have not heard yet.

I surely hope all LCTs were not assigned because that would mean I didn’t get it.

@Billy!

I´m also hoping for a LCT and have not been assigned.

If I was charged $ 4,675 per semester how much money would it be per month? I know there are 4 months in semester, but maybe this bill includes winter holidays as well?
And also, can we negotiate the room assignment? I was really hoping I get LCT but was placed into regular priced room instead. Thanks in advance.
