Knowing your major for Gallatin

Hi,

I applied to the gallatin school and I'm getting mixed answers... do you have to know exactly what you want to do in order to get in?

I have an idea of what I want to do - I know I want to write but I'm not sure what about or whatever so I want to be able to follow my interests which is why I applied to gallatin.

In my extra statement I wrote that I knew I wanted to write and study music and philosophy in relation to writing, but that I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do.

Sorry for the rambling, but in short, is having a pretty good idea of what you want to do good enough or do you need to have the specifics?

you dont have to know exactly what you want to do,but by now you should have atleast a general idea on the path you want to take (mat/sci vs. humanities...etc) At NYU you can take classes in music through steinhart or CAS, take CAS philosophy classes, as well as writing classes also through CAS, there are lots of creative writing/literatire/comparitive literature/english classes.

ps. after you are accepted you fill out a sort of application/survey so gallatin can match you with an advisor that can help you with your interests.
