Can i learn some of the plebe knowledge before R-day?

I guess you could learn most of the knowledge if you know a current plebe. My brother thats a plebe told me that they change it each year and I would look like a jerk if I knew it already. Almost every new candidate does not know the knowledge before hand. If I get in for the c/o 2010 I wouldn't learn any of it even if my brother gave me his book; its all part of the process.

my son, a plebe, tells me that learning the second stanza of the Star Spangled Banner would be a good thing to do early.

Don't memorize knowledge early. You'll make your classmates look bad and be nothing but a toolbag. Part of the experience of Beast is struggling to learn knowledge and working together with your classmates to learn it. There is a lot to memorize, but most people can handle it.

What they told us at Naval Academy Summer Seminar is to learn the stuff (so you have some reduced stress during the summer, can just regurgitate whaat you know) but purposefully mess up or say you don't know it at first - knowing it right away is - as homer09 said - making your classmates look bad, or "bilging" on them in Navy talk. Me, i'm learning all the enlisted ranks definitely (already know officers)

Pretending not to know knowledge that you have memorized before Beast seems like an honor code issue. I agree with Chief; there would be nothing wrong with learning more obscure verses of songs that you know will be part of the experience. Don't show off, but I can't believe that beginning to improve your memorization skills would be such a bad thing.

No one really cares here; just don't pass off the entire knowledge book in a week like someone did. There are a lot of things that don't change and would be good to memorize: Schofield's, Worth's Battalion Orders, the 3 General Orders, The Corps, the Alma Mater. All of those are good to kinow.

After reading my AFA book of survival tips, they say its not a violation to say you don't know. It says like, if your peer doesn't know, then you're asked, then say you don't know so you won't "pimp" them (AFA talk :D ). I suppose you just need to blend however possible. I know in HS now that would be impossible cause I want to be the opposite. I'm sure most are the same way here.

Guys, honestly, don't worry about it. I was so panicked about the knowledge last year before coming too, but I promise, you'll have plenty of time to get it done. Just enjoy your time now. People kept telling me that, and I didn't listen. TRUST ME. Do everything fun you've wanted to do NOW before you come.
