Plebe Knowledge- Bugle Notes

Check this out....if you learn your plebe knowledge now...for those that have received appointments...it will make life much easier.....this link gives you the online version of Bugle Notes...the plebe knowledge book. Now under the mission of the academy...it is the Prep School Mission which varies slightly. Now, if you are a whiz at your knowledge and your squad sucks you will draw attention because the upperclass cadets will wonder why you are not helping out your classmates....so be careful...cooperate and graduate we always said.

wouldn't learning all that stuff beforehand take away from the plebe experience?

Ask a Prepster that same question.

If anyone wants I have the old knowledge book (cadre edition) from summer 2005 on a .zip, PM me.

Word of caution- don't act like you already know. They don't like that.

Well I wish I had learned it before hand...I drew a lot of heat for not knowing all my knowledge...and that affected my academics and evrything else...my team leader was a jerk and was overly on my case

Better to look like you have a good recall...otherwise they might question why you already know, lol.

With Beast first detail being one week shorter this year, rumor has it that the volume of knowledge that has to be learned will be reduced....
My son (who is still getting the full plebe experience :) ) suggests that learning Scofields, the cadet ranks and the code of conduct ahead of time will be helpful.

I've read some differing opinions over on the USNA forum. Some say that learning (for USNA, Reef Points) ahead of time took away from the experience and that they forgot a lot of it anyway when they were being yelled at over everything they did. Others said it was very helpful. I guess it's different for each person.

Ann,

What is "Beast first detail?" Beast is still 6 weeks, right?

futurewarrior: I checked the master calendar and yes, Beast is still 6 weeks - so ignore my earlier comment and put that rumor to rest. At one point they were going to shorten 1st detail. Now that A day has also been been moved back (to compensate for the R-day change) that no longer applies.
Beast is divided into 2 details. During 1st detail new cadets generaly get everything issued, and work on discipline (how to be a cadet), during second detail new cadets generally work on basic military skills (a lot more fun!). There is a change over of cadre between first and second detail.

FewAndProud16: Yes, i'm sure it is different for everyone and certainly an individual choice. If you do a search you will see lots of different opinions on the subject. Only you know how easy it is for you to memorize large volumes of information in a stressful environment.

Thanks for clearing that up. You had me scared that I was going to get cheated out of one more week of pain :P

To anyone I sent the .zip to, thank C2C Abbott. He will be at A-Day (he was class of 2007, but is class of 2009 now because he left for a religious mission).

Enjoy the calendar in the file!

hey could you send me the zip for the knowledge book for 2005?

unless you are really bad at memorizing, I wouldn’t stress out too much about the Beast Knowledge. If you want to study, study “the Corps”.

hey can you send me the zip file on the knowledge book.
im a former grad class of 96
would like a copy
