knowlegeble Princeton parents- a quick question!

My good friend found out at the last minute that she needs to travel back east on Thur to take her Deerfield Jr H20 player S to Princeton for "Jr day'[?][ He may be recruited]. She is not sure if she will be renting a car and driving or taking the train south. She needs to find a motel/hotel close to the train station to stay Fri night. The coach only mentioned 2 places, and both are booked Fri. Any suggestions?

^^ oops. sorry for the typo in the title!

the only place that is walking distance from the princeton station is the nassau inn which is in downtown princeton. There are a couple of places in the marketfair development (courtyard by marriot, i think?) which has bus access to princeton.

Most of the hotels in princeton have a shuttle and will drop you off at the university.

As a Princeton parent of a junior we have stayed there many times. We have always used Hotwire for our hotel purchases. In order to figure out which hotel is being offered use the website betterbidding.com to help identify the hotel based on the star rating, location and amenties given in their precise order.

We have stayed at the Hyatt Regency which is just off Alexander and is a 4 star for around $60-69 per night on Hotwire. But we prefer the Hyatt Place which runs about $40-49 per night (Hotwire rate not theirs) and includes a great breakfast. It has been renovated and has better rooms than the Westin or the Hyatt Regency just down the street.

The Hyatt place also will shuttle you to the university, just have to ask.

We have also stayed at the Doubletree, the Marriot, Extended stay and a few others but just to try them out until we found our favorite, all were purchased through Hotwire. You can also purchase through Priceline and probably save a few more dollars however with Hotwire you can book for 3 adults or with 2 children and will receive a different selection of hotels with at least 2 beds.

Hyatt place rooms come with 2 queens plus a queen sofa sleeper which worked out great for us especially when we were traveling with a few more people. Son was also an athlete so I did travel up there more than some parents do.

Hope this helps. Contact me if you need more help.

Kat

ps also use hotwire for our stays in annapolis to visit other son and our favorite hotel there is the Westin for under $70 a night

^^^thanks!!

Keep in mind that there are two different stations - Princeton and Princeton Junction. The Princeton station is in downtown Princeton and has a little train locally referred to as the Dinky, which just goes to Princeton Junction, where you can transfer to another train. Princeton Junction is the big station on the Boston - New York - Philadelphia - Wash DC corridor.

Many local hotels have shuttles that will take you to the (big) Princeton Junction station. (Or else it would be a cheap taxi ride.) Someone mentioned the Nassau Inn which is walking distance to the (little) Princeton station, but I would guess you really want to go to the Princeton Junction station instead, so you are probably better off at one of the many chain hotels along Route 1.
