Best way to visit Princeton campus without a car

Hi,

My daughter was accepted to Princeton and Harvard yesterday. We live in midwest and have never visited these two campuses before. We better do so before May 1st. If we fly to Newark International Airport, what is the best way to get to the Princeton Campus without renting a car? Please be as specific as possible. I would appreciate it if someone can recommend a hotel near the campus. My daughter cannot go on the admit weekend due to a schedule conflict. Should we contact admission office for a guided tour?

Thank you in advance.

I recommend NJ Transit (NE Corridor “going to Trenton” - stop at Princeton Junction, and then take the small Princeton train called the Dinky to the campus). It only takes an hour or so.

Hi jazzfanzz
Cannot help but notice your name…what instrument does your daughter play or is she in jazz vocal? My junior in high school daughter is interested in those schools as well, curious to hear.

NJ Transit trains stop at Newark Airport. Get on a southbound train (towards Trenton) and get off at Princeton Junction. There is a little train, called the Dinky, that runs from there right into Princeton. You can walk from there to anywhere on campus, but you probably don’t want to be carrying too much luggage.

The Nassau Inn is right in Princeton and is probably the best place to stay without a car. I do think you should call admissions; they probably help people with these arrangements all the time.

Congratulations! The NJ transit train from Newark is easy. My kids have always done that. The Nassau Inn is the closest, but isn’t cheap. Some of the chain hotels further out may have shuttles to campus, but I suggest you call and confirm.

I will say this, if your D goes to admit weekend at Harvard and doesn’t go to admit weekend at Princeton, she will choose Harvard (unless a. she hates cities or b. she wants to be an engineer) and then you don’t even need to go to Princeton:). It’s just too hard for anyone to decide for the abstract against the concrete.

There are two weekends scheduled for Princeton - no way for her to go?

Thank you all for your kind responses. My daughter was accepted to Stanford last December through early action. She has already booked the ticket to attend the Admit Weekend at Stanford. The date is conflicting with Harvard’s admit weekend and one of Princeton’s admit weekends. So we will be unable to attend Harvard’s Admit Weekend for sure. There is still a hope for Princeton’s other one but it is too close (April 15).

Thank you again.
