I hope this belongs here, but I'm looking for any SUMMER programs at Korea and China where I can stay for a couple of weeks to learn the language and culture. I'm more interested in Korea.

If anyone knows any information, post away! Thanks!

China Study Abroad has a lot of summer options available - including Mandarin programs, Summer Study and Travel Programs, and also a high school "summer camp" program for students ages 13 to 17.

Students 17 and up (older high school, college, graduate students, professionals, retirees - anyone!) can enroll in the regular Mandarin or Study/Travel programs, which range from 4 weeks to 8 weeks though there can be options for longer custom programs too. If you are a junior or senior in high school that would prefer to be with a more college-based group, this option will probably fit you better. Otherwise, any high school students can participate in the "summer camp" option instead - it's about a four week program combining language study, cultural exploration, and lots of sightseeing with three different sessions in 2009.

If you are interested in some more information, you can reach me at laura@chinastudyabroad.org I've been a Program Advisor for the company for over two years and studied in China five times myself; I'd be happy to send some details on whichever option(s) appeal to you!

NSLI-Y (NSLIFORYOUTH.ORG) offers month, semester- and year-long programs in both China and Korea. The application deadline for this year has already passed, though.

Yonsei University in Seoul is one of the top three universities in South Korea, along with Seoul National University and Korea University. Yonsei has a great summer program where you take four classes in various subjects including Korean language. At the end of the program, college credit can be awarded. There is tons more information on the site itself.

Basic requirements include being 18 and over, and either graduating high school with an acceptance letter from a university or a current university student.

Ewha University in Seoul has a wonderful International Summer School program. My daughter attended last summer, after her senior year in high school, before she started college, and earned 9 credits. She took Korean language, and two other courses she chose from those offered: Korean Cinema and Media and Culture. Classes are held Monday thru Thursday, field trips are offered on Fridays. She applied for and won a full tuition fellowship to attend. The program was 6 weeks last summer, but this year has been changed to 4 weeks and 6 credits. She will attend again this summer, since she can not study abroad during the school year due to her college major which doesn’t allow it. She would recommend this program highly. summer.ewha.ac.kr. is the website.

hi! I read your post on your daughter attending Ewha University this summer. I got so excited - I’m also planning to attend Ewha this summer!! It’s great to see someone else is going. It will be my first time abroad. I hope it goes well. It’d be great to meet your daughter too. Oh, and by the way, my name is Trisha… I attend Denison University, a rising sophomore ^_^

Trisha so happy you posted here! Actually both of my daughters will be attending Ewha this summer. One is a rising sophomore at University at Buffalo, the one who went last summer too, and our older daughter will be joining her sister this summer. She is a rising junior at Elon University. They are very excited to be able to make this trip together. I’ll send you a PM with my email address so you can get in touch and I will get you in touch with my daughters. This is my older daughter’s first time abroad too. I’m sure she is nervous too.

Just reading over their website it doesn’t look like it. Just have to fill out the application and pay the tuition fee. I could be wrong though.
