Hey guys, I just want to know my chances of getting accepted into yale.

i mean, i know my grades aren't super, and im retaking my test scores. Our school doesn't do GPAs, but i know because i slacked off earlier in my school years, its gonna be hard to get into yale. I'm hoping that they'll notice the improving upward trend n my grades and give me a chance? I've also been actively working hard in my extracurriculars to make up for my weak grades.

Comments please? and support your opinions with a well-thought out reason? Thanks so much guys and sorry it was so long!

your main weakness is that you have relatively low SAT scores. Even 2150+ isn't going to be above average (although i guess they won't necessarily keep you out, either. But a 2000 might.)...
Your artistic achievements are really something though, and that's not common for an asian guy. ... perhaps you should send in an art portfolio. They will take that into consideration. However, most yale applicants also have academic awards / distinctions. That you lack (unless you didn't write those in...). .... so I guess you have an average shot overall, although your art is definitely exceptional. Essays and recommendations count, too.

Yea, i am submitting an art portfolio, and also a documentay that i filmed i italy about florentine and venetian art.

also, im getting ready to compete in the NFAA this year (national foundation for the achievement in arts)

they select only 150 from around 8000 applicants nationwide to go to florida and showcase their artwork. hopefully ill be accepted

Just want to add a comment on the art portfolio. I'm always telling posters that they should be certifiably top artists if they want to send art in. You're an example of what I'm talking about.

They won't look at your 8th grade grades. Your freshman year is a problem simply because others will have great freshman scores. Definitely retake the SATs or try the ACT.

You ECs are VERY strong because of your accomplishments in art. Your chances are average b/c of your grades and test scores, which would do you in without very strong ECs. You need to nail your essays and make sure you get outstanding recs.

thanks admissions and explode. your comments really helped.

yea, im definitley gonna retake my SAT's and SAT II Math 2c.

im hoping to get 2150+ or even 2200+ on SATs and at least 750 on IIC.

and hopefulyl straight A's on 12th grade first quarter/semester transcript

Would first quarter grades that are really high with his difficult courseload? I am asking because I am in a similar situation as the OP where I will be taking most of my a.'s senior year and was wondering if a high gpa would make a SIGNIFICANT difference?

Would first quarter grades that are really high with his difficult courseload?

umm..i dont get your question much? o__O

I meant would first quarter grades that are really high with his diffucult courseload really make a difference so late?

i hope so.

because my freshman grades werent spectacular, im hoping that the first quarter excellent senior grades will show them that i am focused now and more then capable of emulating their expectations

I hope so too.
My avg are as follows
Freshman: 93.1, 93.7
Sophomore: 94.5, 85.5
Junior:91.3'91.7

That 85 was a result of family sickness but I am hoping to makeup for my grades next year where my courseload is: A.p english lang,a.p calc ab, a.p micro, a.p psych, s.p chem, reesearch and linear and differential.

I noticed that you go to school in NYC. I also go to school there. Are you talking about hunter?

yea i am. which school do u go to?

btw. colleges will understand that u had a family sickness. either write to them through an interesting essay, ask you counselor to include it in their reccomendation, or tellthem during the interview.

I go to Bronx Science.

^aka the root of academic evil.

LOl college.. thank goodness you did not say stuy.

oi, i mean no offense to them, but bleh for me. People from all the other states are like "Wow, Isn't stuy the best high school in NY"

and im like "Puhlease... many schools (not even judt hunter) surpass stuy. bronx science is beginning to emulate it!"
