Damn it, why did you have to leave me out!! :D

Anyway, Dr. Hwang shouldn't have done what he did, sure, but I don't understand those people who were wanting to obstruct his research even before we had any evidence against him.

Well the thing is though... a man of science should not have lied or faked the results. There is no doubt that he's a patriot, but what he did was not really good for the country either. The international community will be very skeptical of the whole Korean science community for a while too although it was the Korean science community that found out Hwang's fabrications. I just hope all the other scientists working hard in Korea do not get disadvantages in the international science community due to this incident.

To neoking77: HEY you live in Burnaby? Cool... Which church do you go to? I go to Grace Community Church... Oh and don't worry about being a "banana" too much. You are a Korean-Canadian, and if others do not accept you as who you are, why do you care? Also, I'm sure you'll be Koreanized really quickly if you went to Korea and lived there for like two months. I mean... Come on... it's in your blood. So don't worry too much about it, and if you try, you willl make some awesome Korean friends I'm sure.

lol etherealkev is totally right about the koreanized thing. I was a bit rusty on my Korean before, and at the end of my 2months holiday in Korea, I was like.. all charged up. It comes back pretty quickly so dont worry.

yeh i went to korea for winter break. totally unleashed my nostalgia for everything that i had seen when i lived there. No wonder i'm listening to 90s korean songs right now.

I still believe (a bit) in Dr hwang.. He couldn't have fooled the whole world. I know this sounds vague but it just seems a bit suspecious that all his colleagues turned their backs on him just before the media explosion. Even though it was confirmed yesterday, i hope they do further investigations.. unless dr hwang admits to the fraud at his press conferene. My parents think that the US government are all behind this lol.

edit: I believe his works were sabotaged. lol i couldnt think of the word 'sabotage' at the time.

hm. I wish that were true man... but I've gotta tell you, you don't even WANT to start on conspiracy theories... The way I understand it is that his other colleagues sort of chickened out while Hwang just held his position all the way. We should not forget that it was another group of scientists in Korea, not outside Korea, who discovered this fraud. I believe it is strictly Dr.Hwang's personal issue, and what Koreans should do is to minimize the harm being done on the Korean science community as a whole. However brilliant Hwang may be, he is now a goner, and we must not dwell on him.

i know that many korean parents idolize Berkeley, but does anybody else have nightmares about going to UC Berkeley? there are seriously too many korean kids in that school.

I can tell you my parents weren't too happy about my EDing to Cornell. And when they found out that now I couldn't apply anywhere else RD since being accepted ED is binding, they were like 'Oh.'

I have a feeling Dr. Hwang will never admit it, even if it is true, to his dying day.

hahah yeah Korean parents tend to idolize HYPSM and Berkeley... When I told them which schools I was going to apply to they were like NO MIT? NO Stanford? NO Berkeley? lol. I just told them there is no way I'm staying in the west even if its warmer down there in Cali or I'm going to an engineering school :D Still my final list reflected their opinions a lot i guess seeing all the schools i applied to are like reaches/matches but no safeties... lol. McGill and UofT, the two Canadian ones I'm applying to are the safeties for me I guess... ㄱ( -_-)r

I agree with heythatslife on Hwang. He won't. He'll try to look as honorable as circumstances allow him to. Or as noble. Hwang publicly apologized now and said all the blames are on him, but he's still maintaining his previous position on the question of the existence of an actual stem cell... trying to look noble by sacrificing himself IMHO. Maybe I'm being too critical of him, but I can't help but be disgusted by the whole situation and his attitude. I mean you should've actually seen him speaking.

Ugh I have a chem test at school tom and at 2:23 am, 0% studying done and I'm here at CC again... typing. lol

The interesting fact is that he spent very little time actually SITTING in his office researching. He attended funerals, weddings, gave speeches at elementary, middle, high schools and universities, went to parties for famous folks, even sat and waited until ppl stopped drinking at 5 AM and gave his "Sun-Bae" teacher a ride home (he was drunk).
Needless to say, Dr. Hwang was more of a public relations expert than a scientific researcher. His colleague told one newspaper that when he saw Dr. Hwang attending a funeral of a person that he never knew, he went up and told him: "It's okay for you not to make urself so busy attending everything! I'd rather be happy if you took this time to sit in ur office studying for the future of this country."

Well, as you can see, fame/popularity/charisma/self-adoration diluted any remains of "true science" in Dr. Hwang's world.

heythatslife - sorry about that lol (- -)(_ _) 꾸벅 good luck on your sat.

etheralkev - i go to Willingdon Church. it's a multicultural church but many, many koreans go there. Grace Community Church i have not heard of, lol sorry. is it in burnaby? the only Korean churches i know are Gangnim, and Sunbokum (my old churches). thanks for your words of encouragement, i hope i can be 'koreanized' soon ^^

hahah so true. Especially if it is reasoning test. Don't be like me staying up till 2 or 3 am everyday before the test. (And after, since that's well... the normal bed time for me)

To neoking77: ahh I see I see. Yeah GCC is probably one of the biggest Korean congregations in Greater Vancouver... with over 2000 registered adult 교인's. Its office is in New West. Currently we are renovating the church building in Surrey, so the services are held in Vancouver right now.(In a highschool... Gladstone Secondary) Which school do you go to? I go to Southridge if you know it by any chance...

To vivo: stats huh? hm. Why don't we keep stats pretty simple and talk about what we want to do in the future instead... Rating chances seems so useless to me now... no offence but it IS more of an ego booster right? Anyways, here's mine
2290,800MIIC 800Phys 790Chem,94.3cumulative unweighted, valedictorian, various EC's including hospital volunteer, clubs, jazz band, rugby team, soccer team, lab assi, etc., etc. total volunteer hours about 400 hours I think, and no major hook.

Now what I want to do... Well, I want to become a doctor, so I'll be taking the pre-med track I guess. I want to become a neurosurgeon and maybe specialize in motor cortex and application of cyber kinetics, like implanting electrodes in the brain and stuff.

Wait... Gangnim... do you mean Kwanglim? as in 광림? I used to go there before GCC. 밴쿠버 순복음교회is probably one of the older Korean churches around...

here's mine
2180; 5 on AP Bio, Psych, Chem, Phsyics B, World History; GPA: 92.3 Success Tutor, Science Club (president), Leo's Club, Amnesty International, Library Club, Stage Crew, Piano; 150 community service hours;

looks like i am inferior to you in every respect lol
and sorry again, i haven't heard of Southridge. I go to Burnaby North Secondary. how did you become a lab assistant? i've e-mailed a few profs at UBC but haven't heard of them hitherto :P
