Korean Thread

well i went to 일반고(단대부고) until feb 04 but i just want to know people who graduated from 일반고 and got into an ivy. He says that because a 일반고생 was caught plagiarizing an app that no one from and 일반고 got into a good school at all and that 외고 and 민사고 which have more credibility got a lot more people into ivies.

i hear that stuff happens in Korea all the time...
U.S. institutes dont trust korean high schools.

Oh~
What happens if you don't send your decision by May 1
to the schools you will not go?
I totally forgot about them and it's 11:26pm!!

ringolucian - they'll just assume you're not coming. Send an e-mail or something just to confirm.

etherealkev - I don't know what kind of a romatic notion you hold of the Korean army, but it's not a fun place to be at all, to say the least. It's anything but rewarding. Most people would not go if they had the choice, and those who would have gone anyway change their minds afterwards. Unless, of course, you're an officer in which case it's a different story, according to my dad, and he tells me to become one.

I'm a korean-american dual citizen and it works for me fine, although my status expires when i'm 35. Also i have to go to the military before that age. The military is not some romantic Red Badge of Courage type of place. There r many suicides, beatings, and rapes. I'm planning on going b /c my dad's a government official and don't want him to have the question why didn't ur son go to the military and why is he a US citizen, b/c koreans have this thing against not going to the military. That question could plague his promotion. Anyways i'm probably gonna be 1) an officer or 2) 카튜사 KATUSA 3) 번역병 for a general not the army(for the army it plain sucks b/c u have a lot of work).

imiracle911

wow, i'm in the same situation. I was wondering...if your dad is a korean diplomat and your last name is Hong because my dad might know your dad... lol

Lol.. I do not have any romantic fantasy about going to ROK army, and I do know of a lot of problems inside the army... it's just that I still consider myself a Korean(and I will continue to do so all my life probably), and it sucks for me not to even have that chance to serve the country... and I want to go into medical corps as an officer... not as a private. lol. I'm not a romantic, nor an extreme patriot... I'm just a pragmatic kid who was thinking it would not be a bad idea to serve my home country... lol.

So you're going to med school?

well... I want to at least try... haha;;;

hey guys, i've created a korean stats thread in the international forum, so check it out and post your stats =D

I will post in your thread later^ when I develop my poor stats into better ones.

I want to go to military.........everyone stares at me weirdly

this thread always need reviving...

yeah so.. hmm.... I have decided to send in my application to yonsei and seoul... Very unlikely i'll get accepted to med school... acutally quite unlikely i'll even get a call to take the test lol
For yonsei, I heard that I just have to go through an interview which I'm dreading. For seoul, I'm dreading the essay section where you write about korean literature/politics/economics?/news?, and the scary advanced maths.. oh and the interview too.

Anyone else gonna do soemthing similar?

guyz did anyone of you take the May SAT Reasoning Test??

우한승

San Jose, CA

Going to be in the United Kingdom somewhere next year

Anyone attending Berkeley as '10?

Does anyone know how many students from Minjok Leadership Academy got into Harvard, Stanford, Duke, or Berkeley this year?

i'm not from minsago, but i know (or heard) three people heading to duke, where i'll be going next fall!

I can tell you.
2 to Harvard, 11 to Duke, 2 to Stanford + 1 guy who left us in the 11th grade, and 12 to Berkeley. But this is just the people who are accepted, and lot less are actually going.

I`m not Korean, but I learn the language at school.
Anjong hasejo!! :)

lol sick..
