(just trying to get my posts up to 15 so I can private message people)
Not many KU people on this site, son attending next fall, school of Architecture.

We did a follow up visit to KU a few weeks back to attend one of their Senior Days. After our visit this summer, it quickly moved up to the top of my D’s list. Since we live in Connecticut, and it is a real travel commitment, we decided to see if she would like KU as much on a second visit.

I am happy to report that my D loved KU even more on her second visit. She has formally committed to KU, paid her deposit and told us she does not want to apply to some of the other colleges that she had on her list. Looks like my D is going to be a Jayhawk!

Congrats! KU is a great school and there are some nice people there. My son went to camp there - dorms were typical, food was good. It is a beautiful camps. Agree on airport points. It is small, easy, fast - but not great for a variety of flights or food. But you will love the ease. Good luck!

I posted in this section last summer. Happy to say our son will be attending KU starting in August. Heading down to Lawrence this week, as he wants to see the campus while students are there (last summer, hardly any activity on campus at all). I’m happy to get out of Minn. to enjoy some 60-degree weather. Signed up for orientation at the end of June and move-in late August. He’s excited and so are my wife and me!

That’s great, MNBill. We are in WI so I totally understand your desire for better weather. I just had dinner last night with a friend who works at KU and he said they have had 70-plus degree days already.

KU is my daughter’s top choice right now and we are visiting over spring break in April. We are really excited about it and cautiously optimistic that she will love it as much in person as she does on paper (or on screen). She is a junior so we have some time.

Has anyone received their financial award information yet? Eager to hear the bottom line. We are also visiting in April and are very interested! I have a family member that went to KU but that was a very long time ago. It was beautiful back then :)

GoAskDad: What is happening to the KCI airport that you say is such a bad thing?

@aeromom - sorry, I’m just now seeing this. CC did not “flag” your mention of me in my notifications and I don’t check the KU thread often.

The proposed KCI airport “re-do” is a hugely controversial project in our metropolitan area. It might be best for you to just google it - something like KCI + The Kansas City Star. However, it will probably be at least a few years before anything is done to the airport, so I would not worry. Myself, I’m among the ranks of folks who love KCI As-Is (well, it could use some more face-lifts, etc.). For one who simply travels in/out of Kansas City, KCI is incredibly convenient. There are others who would like to implement a “single-terminal” plan, but I have never actually spoken in-person to someone who feels this way. So, for now, I would not let the airport affect any decision about KU. If it stays as-is for at least a few more years, I can’t imagine your DC would feel anything but love for KCI. It is truly The Best Airport from a usability perspective, IMO. :x
