L&C and Reed

To illustrate the futility of the USNWR rankings, Reed was in the top ten of national LACs before the school stopped participating.

I found Puget Sound in a tie for 80th:

Right. Not a big fan of USNWR rankings, but L&C is 79 and Puget Sound is 80. You can’t just go by GPA for L&C cuz they’re SAT optional. That attracts kids who’s GPA is disproportionally higher than their SAT’s, which can indicate grade inflation. Just sayin.

Reed, despite not being very highly ranked by US News anymore, still holds respect in the academic world that is comparable to very, very few colleges in America, and that Lewis and Clark will not be able to compete with.

L&C is not SAT/ACT optional. The scores are listed as one of the admission criteria for applying. However, they do offer a portfolio path as an option where the applicant can submit graded work.

Yes, of course, the portfolio path is what makes L&C SAT optional. Doesn’t matter what name you give it. We know a lot of kids who applied (it’s popular at my kids’ school), and not one of them ever submitted SAT scores.
