Not much to be upset about, this is just part of the public participation process and happened at NYU recently. The public officials are not going to kill this massive investment in this economy and are hoping USC pays off the extortionists with a larger “mitigation” payment. USC has waited a decade for this and will remain patient. IMO, once everyone has had their say and the latest study is reviewed, the project will get approved.

This is annoying beyond belief. USC should’ve been able to put shovels in the ground on this stuff years ago. The neighborhood residents and the city council together have no appreciation whatsoever for the fact that USC didn’t move to Orange County (the El Toro military base, I believe) as they’ve had that option several times throughout their history. It’d be a totally different university down there than it is in the city, but it’d have a lot, lot less riff raff to deal with… and you wouldn’t have students getting shot every few years.

USC is the best thing that neighborhood has, period. Without USC, it’s Watts or Compton. In the meantime, the gentrification continues. The neighborhood used to be fantastic and gorgeous, then it went downhill, and now it’s going up again.

Completely agree 10char.

If this gets approved, USC will definitely be a top choice of mine. I visited the campus on Friday and it was nice, however getting there was horrible. I did not feel comfortable at all.
