The University of Southern California has received approval of the long awaited University Village. The Village will be millions of square feet of retail, hotel, academic and residential spaces. It will add up to 3000 beds for students, a boutique hotel, university offices and a landscaped "town square".

It is expected to provide construction jobs and at the completed stage 8,000 permanent positions. A certain percentage of these are to be filled by community residents. The long term project will be privately funded.

Architectural drawings of the planned village can be found on the USC facebook page.

Hi Georgia Girl – That’s great news. Any word on the expected completion date[s] of the various phases? Thanks!

However, I’d estimate that it would start later than that.

So the University Village will be a new residential college at USC or something?

Curious,

This will be built on land USC owns which has been mixed use. It will be a huge project built over a period of years. Planned are a boutique hotel, academic buildings, undergraduate and graduate housing, landscaped town square, large market, restaurants and other retail spaces. It is expected to be built over a period of twenty years.

USC is a private university. This project will cost millions. All those funds must be raised by the university over a period of time.

On the SC website are links to maps and a video about the project.

It’s basically USC version of Westwood and Sunset Village. It’s great that it will be mixed use having the dorms on the top and shopping on the bottom.
