Re: grad school----It doesn’t matter where you go to undergrad. It’s all about GPA, professor recommendations, GRE scores, independent research, and if your lucky–publications.

doesn’t really matter at all. pick the school you like the most.

Pomona, indubitably.

If you know anything about Pomona, you’ll understand why.

Well some of the responders said “it doesn’t matter”. It depends on your major, and what you’re planning to do in graduate school. You haven’t told us, so it’s really not possible to provide you with a useful response.

Suppose you want to get a PhD in English Literature. Then all of the LACs you mention would provide you with the coursework and connections you’ll need for applying to grad school. Suppose it was ancient languages, or Electrical Engineering, or physics. Different answers.

So what do you want to do after you graduate?

IMO, these are the factors you should consider when thinking about schools for grad school:

–Which of these schools have a strength in this area? As fogcity suggests, depending on your interest, this could be all of these schools, or it could be two. If you want to do something that not all of these schools would be good for, you need to make sure that the school you picked can at least give you a solid foundation in the subject (it might be hard to go to grad school in classics if your school only offers two courses in the subject…)
–Which of these schools would make me happy? At which could I thrive? All the strength in the world won’t help you if you’re unhappy and therefore don’t do well or establish relationships with profs, etc. Other than being LACs, these schools are all over the place – liberal/quirky to conservative, urban to suburban or rural, etc. Where do you think you’d thrive?

Actually it matters a lot. Those who say it doesn’t matter are wrong. Some LACs do a better job of preparing students for grad schools than others and the grad schools know. There is also variation among departments. Having said that, most of the LACs you mention will be good preparation, but probably Pomona and Oberlin would be at the top of the list.
