Lack of diversity at stern

i am not being racist but did any of the people who attended that open house notice everyone is either asian, indian or jewish. I did not see one "normal" person there

Excuse me.... what is normal? This is america and this is NYU.

lol wth? that will be kinda wierd for me because im coming from a predominantly white school (im indian), and im gonna be surrounded by asians and indians, which i will again find kinda awkward X__X

The way you phrase that sentence makes you sound so PREJUDICED that it's actually kinda funny..haha. You could have said something besides "normal"..lmao.

I find it hard to believe you couldn't find a single white person there (by "normal," you mean a non-Jew Caucasian?).

That might be the stupidest comment I've seen on this board. If you have that opinion, please don't come to Stern. I don't want someone as stupid as you at my school.

well i am asian and my best friend is jewish so i am not a racist. what i am only pointing out is that like 50% of the kids are chinese or indian. What i define as normal, well that is what the majority of american is made of. Not the 2-4% asian or 2% jewish population. I mean i dont mind asians and jews, i get along quite well, it is just that the porportion is ridiculously high

Haha because Asian people can't be racist...especially if they have Jewish friends!

Anyway, I don't think you were being racist, it was just a poor choice of words. But I know at least 6 kids going to Stern who are white, so rest assured, zoolander, there is diversity there. The majority are white but there is also a large Asian minority, I've noticed.

chinese? not every single asian is chinese dude

haha, i love this topic. i know stern is really popular among the koreans at my school and all over the country, so many of the asians are also probably korean. also not all bown people are indian... i'm pakistani! Haha, bro rest assured, we'll take care of you.

I know this sounds discriminatory, but all I am is curious: If you were to count "normal" (LMAO) as non-Jewish Caucasians, then you would'nt have that many "normal" people at NYU, right?

Oh and I don't think that zoolander meant anything with his/her comment...I think he/she gave a very poorly worded (funny-ass) inquiry.

I'm half Chinese and half Norwegian.

Am I normal?

you guys are taking it too seriously
all i am saying is that stern is a ridiculously over-representative of certain "minorities"(who happen to be the majority at stern)

i am not bashing stern nor am i bashing minorities, i am just pointing this fact out
though it is kinda wierd cause i grew up being like one of the only asians in a predominately white town

I still don't know why people say asians and indians like they're different groups. that makes no sense to me, it's like saying asian and koreans. >_>

and we get it, you're white-washed. okay just remember man, you're part of that group of "non-normal people"

well asians and indians, i think this goes with the general stupid stereotype

when they think asians, they think of oriental or eastern asian races whom they all deem as chinese (regardless if you are japanese, korean, chinese or vitnemese)
indians obviously look different so when they think of indians, they dont associate them with "chinese" (all eastern asian races)

it is just american ignorance

o and some people consider india as a sub continent

and seriosly if you are from the middle east, u consider urself middle eastern not asian
so same applies to indians

american ignorance + cultural self identification= more ignorance

i'm indian. are you saying i'm not normal?? please.

it's great that there are so many minorities at stern.

once again way too sensitive it is shocking for me (a kid coming from ethnically representative school) to see a school with like 40% asians. huge adjustment

zoolander, honestly your just making yourself look really stupid right about now. I don't think you meant anything bad by your first comment, it was just a silly mistake, but now all your babbling about "American ignorance" is making you look like a retard because you're the only ignorant person on this thread, so you come off looking like a huge hypocrite.

To answer your actual question, I would say NYU has a large Asian population (including south asian/middle eastern) compared to the rest of the U.S. If you're not from nyc, it is something you might notice if you come here for the first time, esp from a mostly white suburb. So yeah, it would be an adjustment, but not a huge one. You'll get used to it after a while.

why do I get the feeling that Stern somehow tries to limit the number of white people that are part of the class....

wow.... this is possibly the stupidest thread i encountered in ANY forum of ANY subject.
