Lack of extracurriculars that are non-academic.

I'm a junior, class of 2010. I realized my extracurricular activities are purely academic except for the Youth Choir I do. I want some activity that shows I don't study all the time but I don't play any sports or instruments. If I try to play a sport, I have to wait until AP exams are out of the way as well as the summer because I'm expecting to go to a summer program. My point is: how will colleges react if I join my local crew (rowing) team in the fall and put it on my resume as a 12th grade activity? Will it seem like I only did it with lack of passion and only to aggrandize my extracurricular?

Perhaps it won't seem that way to the admissions, but the bottom line is that you ARE actually doing it "with lack of passion and only to aggrandize my extracurricular."

Although I may not be as smart as everyone in CC, I really think that the majority does not understand this simple guideline: Do what YOU want to do, and stop trying to trick the admissions.

Join the activities that you really care about, and pursue those with creativity and assertiveness. That's what admissions cares about, not how varied your interests are.
