LACs in Canada?

Do they suck (compared to other top Can unis and American LACs)?
I've been looking around, but Canadian articles are always really nice about unis, and they always write about the positive things so it's hard to decipher how good they really are...I mean, Maclean's just heaps praises on Mt Allison et co, but according to my dad, they suck. - -+

Mt Allison has produced the most Rhode Scholars (more than any US LAC)…

IIRC they’re also the most wealthiest (per student basis) school in Canada.

Yep I wikied it and I found those things, and I told my dad, but he raised a really good question of “then why don’t we hear of any top students in your school going there, ehhh?”

It’s because students grow up hearing about the big schools: UofT, Queens, Loo etc and eventually just go there. The LACs here are relatively unknown yet teach well and arguably better than the thousand student intro courses at UT.

yea that’s what i said too (xD)
but then wouldn’t that mean that less well-known schools like mt.all would also attract less top students?

^They might attract a different crowd (less ethnic minorities, ginos, and athletes, for example), but there’s no reason to surmise that their student bodies are any less intelligent. I mean, look at Mount Allison and its Rhodes Scholar record.

Mt. Allision is good from what I heard… however, arent Rhodes Scholars given out in specific number based on region. Mt. Allision students have little competition in their region whereas US LACs probably have lots of competition. That being said, from what I hear, Mt. Allision and Acadia are pretty good.

^ Rhodes Scholars have regional limits? Wowwwww
Also, when you say pretty good, do you mean like comparable to Can’s other top unis? Or just pretty good as in, erm, pretty good?

i dont know enough about them to compare them to canada’s top unis… but it is hard to compare schools that are primarily undergraduate focused to those that are reasearch unis… for example, Williams, Amherts etc are great but are hard to compare to research universities because they serve different purposes. But I have heard of Mt. Allison students being accepted to Yale Law and such. So if you do well there, there will be plenty of opportunities for you.
