<p>Hi. I wanted to learn generally what most people think about the below LAC's and to which Ivy league or major Universities are they the most similar to? The comparision could be of any type.</p>
<p>Bowdoin, Amherst, Williams, Middlebury, Reed, Grinnell, Carleton, Vassar, and Oberlin.</p>

<p>Bowdoin and Brown both have “B”, “o”, and “w” in their names, IN THE SAME ORDER!</p>
<p>Is this just a random conversation starter, or is there context to the question?</p>
<p>There are really no direct equivalents, but I’d say something like this might be a rough approximation, if I had to pick:</p>
<p>Williams:Stanford
Amherst:Princeton
Middlebury : Dartmouth
Swarthmore:Yale (you didn’t ask but that one popped into my head)
Vassar:Brown
Bowdoin:Northwestern
Reed:Berkeley
Grinnell:Rice
Carleton:Wash U.</p>
<p>A lot of these aren’t terribly close, just the first association that came to mind.</p>

<p>No LAC is like Harvard. LACs focus on undergraduate education. Harvard does not. Conversely, Harvard has a brand power which no LAC can or will ever match.</p>

<p>Ilovebagels: I really have a hard time thinking no LAC can beat Harvard; depending on departments, I can think of Reed and Harvey Mudd which can beat Harvard as far as sciences go.</p>
<p>Also as far as perstige goes, how about Amherst and Williams?</p>

<p>Cornell Univ.=Bucknell Univ. (alot of cross applicants, programs offered)
Brown=Amherst (open curriculum) or Wesleyan (types of students)
MIT=?RPI, ?CMU
Stanford=Pomona
Dartmouth=Williams, maybe Middlebury and Bowdoin
Columbia=Vasser, Wesleyan</p>
<p>Just my opinion, have visited most of the schools above.</p>
<p>Claremont McKenna- Rice- Jock kids who are academically capable and like to drink a lot. Both have happy students.</p>
<p>Reed- MIT Quirkiness + U’Chicago Academics</p>
<p>Williams- Dartmouth- In an isolated cold location, party schools that offer amazing academics. Jocky, preppy students in both.</p>
<p>Harvey Mudd- MIT/Caltech</p>
<p>Swarthmore- U’Chicago- Both are in urban settings yet not in the heart and bustle of it. Both have incredibly tough academics and are top intellectual schools.</p>
<p>Pomona- Stanford- Both have the same architectural styles, sunny weather, laid-back attitude, well-rounded, academically endowed kids. Intellectual kids who aren’t as intellectual as schools like U’Chicago. </p>
<p>I thought this was an interesting thread and thus replied to it. Anyone else have insights?</p>
