Both are excellent schools. To some extent it depends on the type of environment/size of school you want in a college. Lafayette has about 2,400 students compared to close to 5,000 students at Lehigh. Lehigh has about 2,000 grad students and Lafayette has none.

The size difference is pretty substantial. That said I am not sure if either school would be best for an international student compared to some other comparable schools, but if you dont want to be in a city I guess that eliminates a lot of them (CMU, RPI, Northeastern for engineering-leaning ones). Both schools have a large greek life population, although from what my younger sister (who goes to Lafayette) says, Lehigh’s is a lot larger and a lot more intense.

While my daughter (who attends Lafayette) would kill me for saying this, both have very reputable engineering programs and you would get a very solid engineering education at either.

If you are female the greek life stats at Lehigh and Lafayette are similar in terms of % of students participating. Fraternities are much more prevalent at Lehigh than Lafayette however. The buzz on campus at Lafayette is that the fraternity system may become virtually extinct within 4 or 5 years. We’ll see, but the frats have certainly been marginalized.

When I was at Lafayette in the 1960s there were, IIRC, 21 fraternities (no sororities, it was then all-male). There are now four. There have been a lot disestablished because of disciplinary reasons, and a lot more petered for lack of membership out in the 1970s and 1980s when fraternities became less popular.
