Lafayette or Northeastern

I have a conundrum. These are my last two and I can't decide between them. I like Lafayette better and can tell based on my past that being happier there will translate into far better grades and such, but it's hard to argue with the co-op at Northeastern. Any advice from CC?

My advice is to make yourself happy.

These two are very, very different schools! So if your gut right now is telling you ‘Lafayette’ you better listen, because it could be that by your second semester at Northeastern your gut will be SCREAMING at you “it should have been Lafayette!”

It’s true that the Northeastern co-op is very attractive and beneficial, but benefits are not productive unless you are satisfied. I recommend you choose Lafayette. It’ll probably have internship and experience opportunities, just not as well known as of the northeastern opportunities

If it helps, my D is a freshman at Lafayette and absolutely loves it. Unless finances are an issue, you should go to the school where you feel you will be happiest.

Question: What is this ‘co-op’ thing everyone talks about on CC?

Co-ops are paid internships that are part of your curriculum. At Northeastern, starting in your sophomore year, you leave the campus for a semester to work full time in the field of your studies. Many students combine the summer break with their co-op, making for a 6-month paid, full time internship. Students end up accruing a lot of professional experience during their studies and after graduation often end up working for the companies they co-oped at.

Lafayette will give you the college experience and prepare you for the real world. the co-op thing is repeated again and again and again at northeastern.
northeastern is a school without a campus or a feeling of being part of something(IMO) there’s nothing wrong with it’s academics. it is just probably a better place to be for graduate school(IMO) go and be part of something special at Lafayette then go to NE as a grad student and enjoy Boston as a young twenty something grad student.

Northeastern absolutely has a campus. Students at NEU can do as many (or as few) co-ops as they want. There are even students who do co-op and graduate in 4 years, although in general it’s a 5 year program.

what did you end up deciding bigringantics?
