If you did not read my last post on the part I forum, I would like everyone with Lafayette questions to now post on THIS forum. This is to separate questions by the academic year in which they were asked, and also prevent the part I forum from becoming extremely long over the next few years.

I will no longer be monitoring the part I forum as of tomorrow (8/27/12). I will be very happy to answer any and all questions here!

Hello! First off, I wanted to say thank you for your willingness to answer questions. I’ve been looking through the last forum you made, and am really grateful for a lot of the information you posted there. It’s been extemely helpful.

Anyway, I visisted Lafayette last spring and completely fell in love with the college… which has left me somewhat obsessed with my chances of getting in. Do you know what sort of grades/scores most students received during high school?

Unfortunately, the entering class profile that Happy1 gave you is about as much information as I have to offer. That info should give you a decent idea of what ballpark your academic stats should be in. I do not work for the admissions office in any capacity, but I can tell you one thing that the admissions office likes is when the prospective students make the initiative to contact them with questions. They keep track of when students make contact with them, and it shows interest and initiation on your part.

Just remember, academics are not the sole factor (although very important) in admissions. The admissions office tries to view the prospective students within a greater context (extracurriculars, etc)…this is true at most colleges nowadays.

I’m glad to hear you liked Lafayette, and hope to see you next year!!

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

pretty much every service is the same. I use virgin mobile and I get service everywhere except the library, gym and a couple other buildings. I think it’s the same for other services too.
wi-fi is pretty good and fast on campus, including outdoors.

no clue about 4G. I can get decent speeds, at least good enough for youtube, when I use my Virgin Mobile as a wi-fi hotspot. Not tried tethering though. I’m assuming if 3G is this good, 4G definitely must be better, if there’s coverage. Some buildings have better reception, some have worse.

I am a student from Vietnam and I am applying to Lafayette this year. My highest score on the SAT are 700 CR, 770 Math, and 710 Writing. I’ll take the SAT II in Maths and Physics this October. Unweighted GPA for the last semester 3,6 (it’s kinda hard to get a higher score here in my school). The thing is, I am applying for financial aid since my family can only contribute abt $10k a year. Should I applying under ED to Lafayette? (I’m choosing between Lafayette and Colby, by the way.)
Thank you all for the help:)

In terms of academic stats, you seem to be a very solid candidate for Lafayette. However, Lafayette looks at more than just grades. They want to get the “big picture” of each student. Therefore they look at other factors, such as extracurricular activities, demonstration of leadership, etc. It is hard for me to reliably “chance you” without that information. Also, the standards for international students are different for domestic students (I am a domestic student), and the fact that you will need financial aid will also likely influence admissions.

Academically, you look solid, but I think sixstringsrocker will be able to shed some more light on admissions for you (he is an international student).

I also need info about traveling home for my son who is a college freshman.
We need to get to Springfield, Mass area, Albany, NY or Hartford, CT or even to Bridgeport, CT. How do you get into NYC the easiest way?
What do you recommend? It’s a 5 hour drive from our house.

Is there a ride board somewhere on campus or is this done on facebook now?

My S is a student at Laf (from CT). My Bus Home is convenient for breaks-other than that, your S could take the Laf shuttle to the Easton bus station where he could get a bus into Penn Station, then Metro North out of Grand Central . Hope this helps.

My D is a freshman at Laf and My Bus Home should be a great option for her to get home on school breaks. I didn’t know about it before seeing it here, so thanks everyone for passing it along.
