Landmark Volunteers

Hi parents!
I know some of you have kids who participated in the landmark volunteers program, so I thought this would be a good place to ask for experiences. I'm considering attending a program this summer, but I'd like to hear more about it first. What kind of work did your child do? Did they have much free time? Most of all, did they enjoy it?

Thanks, everyone!

My son went to Tanglewood with Landmark 2 summer ago. He had a great time and came home feeling very productive and confident. The work was varied, some involved cleaning, gardening, etc. It was all physical work at Tanglewood and another nearby location. Most of the kids in the group were good spirited, team players. One was not, but this was not a big issue. The highlight for my son was being able to see 4 concerts at Tanglewood during his time on site. Another boy we know went to the Shakespeare location last summer and had a similar, positive experience. He enjoyed the physical work, liked the kids he met and was able to do some fun things in down time.

My son got a brochure in the mail yesterday. I scanned it but couldn't see an age limit. Do they accept HS graduates? (Got to do something this summer).

My daughter went to Jamestown/Yorktown last summer (her picture is on the website - a lovely one of her bending over). She had a fabulous time. They did both indoor and outdoor work; her favorite was rebuilding a split-rail fence. Her group stayed in an apartment-style dorm at William and Mary. There was a lot of time to goof off in the evening, and they shared cooking duties. Most of the others were from the northeast, and she's still in contact with many of them. She says that it was a very interesting experience with group dynamics, but they did all get along.

thanks for the information, everyone! this program sounds like it's a lot of fun.
