Currently I know two languages fluently (English and Filipino/Tagalog), but I want to add a 3rd or even 4th language to that list. I plan on pursuing a career in business, and I live in L.A.

I don't know if I should go with French or German (most interested in this), Japanese (West Coast = business w/ Asia), or Spanish (L.A. = lots of Spanish speakers).

I have no significant experience with these languages btw, and ease of learning is something I am also considering (really need to protect my gpa).

spanish by a mile. especially if you live in LA. french and german are nearly useless unless you're gonna do business in europe. japanese is pretty hard. not all asians speak japanese, but nearly all hispanics speak spanish.

i wouldn't worry about GPA when considering a language. the japanese course would probably be taught at a slower pace.

definitely spanish. The filipino culture is very close to the Hispanic/Spanish one and even some of the words are borrowed into the language and vice versa.
It would be easier for you to learn Spanish since you already know Tagalog than it would for just an English speaker. Plus, you live in LA. Enough Said.

Well due to scheduling issues, it doesn't look like I can get into Spanish.

So what do you think would be the best choice between German, French, or Japanese? Ease of learning is also a major issue, because my GPA really needs to go up.

I wouldn't do Japanese. The course itself will probably go pretty slowly and not be too difficult, BUT learning characters will take up a lot of your time and will eat into study time for other classes. At least that's been my experience with Mandarin.

French is the easiest Romance language to learn, IMO- and I've learned 3 (Spanish, French, and Portuguese). The grammar is much easier that the other two languages.

Could you find a way to learn Portuguese? Brazil is ramping up in economic development and I'm sure there are many Brazilians in LA.
