Language House

Hello! Quick question.
Does anyone know which universities/colleges have language houses?
I know one which is Boston University...
I would love to know more, especially if they have French or Japanese Language Houses :)

All of these have something similar to French and/or Japanese language houses. Some, like Centenary College, only have a floor on a dorm devoted to the language but all follow the same principle of partial immersion in the home campus. Keep in mind that there are a number of universities in Quebec, most of which are cheaper than their American counterparts, which, while offering English classes, are in a French speaking environment. My friend spent a summer at the University of Sherbrook (sp?) and came back with professional fluency in French.

Thank you so much! This is a wonderful list.
Can I ask you about the Canadian universities? Was your friend able to get decent financial aid as an international student? I was interested in McGill University but I:m worried about financial aid because I come from a very low-income family.

Check Ohio Wesleyan too.

McGill can give merit aid to international students, but it can be pretty competitive for the major scholarships. Also , of note is that the tuition fees at mcgill vary based on what department you are in (eg. Arts is about $18k per year, science is $31k)

Stanford also has language houses.

If you are serious about a language house, look for one with a live-in adult language resource; a graduate student, possibly, or a “house parent” who is an immigrant. These people can serve several functions that contribute greatly to the language experience. Primarily, they are a great resource for colloquial speaking, grammar questions or even homework. Secondly, they serve as a monitor to discourage the all-to-easy lapse into English as well as a “cop” who can hand out fines for violations.

@NamelesStatistic Thank you about McGill! I might have to think about that again since I am going into the science department… But it was really good to know that they have significantly different tuition.

@JustOneDad Thank you! How will I be able to find such kinds of language houses?
Just check each school website?
