Does anyone here know what the speciality housing is like? I was interested in the French house brownstone, La Maison Fran

Sophomores can live in them, but the application deadline was mid-February.

I’m possibly going to BU next year, so this is just for curiosity.

I believe that in language specialty houses, you must speak that language or be taking classes in that language up to a certain level. Someone confirm this if that can.

And you must speak that language inside most of the time(?).

“A major or minor in the appropriate language or demonstrated commitment to learning the language by enrollment in a foreign language course; commitment to speak the language at all times in the common areas of the house.”

You can get in even if you’re not taking the class or know the language. As long as you show you’re interested in it and dedicated to learning it. However, from what I hear, language houses are some of the hardest to get into. But there are other specialty houses that end up not getting filled and they shove freshman in there. The Music house is one of those. I also know they’re always trying to get Classics students into the Classics House but no one ever lives there.

Yeah I’m a French major. Do they actually only speak the language all the time, or is that just what the site says? And how many people can fit in one of those brownstones?

It’s usualy 25-ish people. I don’t think they really speak the language all the time… I have a friend in the French House so I can ask.

Each floor has a single, a double, and a triple I believe. At least that’s what I saw in the UNI and Music House. Two floors are all girls floors and two are for guys. The floors are not co-ed.

Thanks for all the info, I definitely would love to live there one year.
