language placement exam

does anyone know the format of the language placement exam? I'll be taking the one for french - what should I expect? do you think it's harder than the AP exam? does it include an oral exam and a listening section?

thanks!

I've only really heard about the Spanish language test, but I'm assuming it's at least similar, if not exactly same for the major languages.

Much easier than the AP test. All multiple choice. First half are written questions in your booklet, second half is listening comprehension. No matter what, make sure you finish the test. Lots of people will just give up and leave, so your score will look that much better in comparison. Also, don't worry about being placed into too high of a class. Pretty much all language classes start with review to bring people up to speed, and as everybody will have different backgrounds it's ok if there's some stuff you don't know. Testing out of more classes just means you'll have less of a hassle meeting the language requirement. But since it sounds like you've already taken the AP french test, I don't think you'll have that much of a problem testing out of the required 4 semesters.
