I’ve taken two years of Spanish in my life and have continued learning with a few books/Duolingo/podcasts.
I’m about to take the Spanish Placement Exam and I’m oddly nervous.
Has anyone taken it? Could anyone speak to its difficulty?
I looked at an AP practice exam and felt under-prepared. I thought I knew a lot!
My son has taken two language placement exams in the last week. Neither was spanish so I can’t comment on the spanish exam but remember that this is not a test for a grade but a placement exam. You know what you know and based on what you know, the placement exam should provide an indication of where you should be placed. Don’t try to prep. Take it when you are refreshed and can focus on it and, hopefully, after some of the nervous energy has passed. Good luck!
The Spanish placement exam is not a very difficult test. The hardest part is the fact that they give you 50 minutes to answer 99 questions. Approximately, the first half are listening and the second half are reading/fill in the blank. I got a 75% and got credit for all 4 semesters.
I can’t attest to the difficulty/rigor of your spanish classes, but the test is much easier than an AP exam.
My kid had two years of French (with A’s)…absolutely bombed the placement test, and was told she’d have to start from scratch. No credit…so she had to take four terms at UMich. She’s always struggled with foreign language, particularly the hearing element. Might just be the way her brain is wired. She finished the last of her Spanish this year and was so relieved. (she switched to Spanish because she thought it would be more useful and since no credit for the French had nothing to lose)
I feel like the French placement test is harder than Spanish since you have to take it at orientation. Also spanish is pretty easy compared to ap spanish but you cannot see what question you are on. I did not finish and still tested out but i have had many years of spanish. Dont study for placement tests. Its supposed to test your current comfortable level
