Language Reqs for College

Hi,

I'm currently making my schedule for next year (my junior year) and I'm wondering whether or not to take a language. I already took 2 years of spanish, and I am fluent in Chinese (got a satisfactory score on the chinese SAT subject test). Even though I only took 2 years of spanish, I finished Spanish lvl III this year, which is equivalent to 3 years.

Should I continue on with Spanish, or stop Spanish and take computer science instead? (If I take Spanish, I won't have room for computer science).

Would colleges penalize me if I only took 2 years of language in high school?

Thanks!

Completion of level 3 generally counts as “3 years”. However, highly selective schools prefer to see level 4 over level 3.

Completion of higher levels in high school can result in a higher placement in college, which can reduce or eliminate the number of courses need to fulfill foreign language graduation requirements in college (however, if you have native or heritage level ability in Chinese, you won’t need anything else for that purpose, unless your major requires high ability in two non-English languages or a specific one other than Chinese).
