Languages at UC

How is the language department? I really like romance languages (I speak french, spanish, and italian), but I want to continue my studies in language and dive into new ones, as well.

Is the department at UChicago well-known or respected? I'm thinking of being an interpreter....also, if UChicago doesn't work well, what other colleges would be well-suited for a language degree?

Thanks!

MIDDLEBURY! This is the poster school for language nuts.

we have a large number of languages, and the program is pretty good. I took french and am starting german, and i already spoke russian. so language nuts are welcome.

Yeap..strongly suggest middlebury. from what i hear, it is the coolest school for language haha...

go look up on their language teaching policies, particularly on the seating of language students in the dining halls! funky.

Chicago has a good reputation for French. I don't think Spanish is as strong, but I could be mistaken.

The really neat thing about U Chicago's languages is that it offers languages most other universities can't offer- everything from Hittite to Tamil to Norwegian.

^ lol, Hittite? That's funny, we studied them in AP Art
