Yes, I know these schools are VERY different, but I want someone to give me insight as to why MIDD over Chicago. I did visit Midd and I do love it greatly, but Chicago still pulls at my heart too.

Any insights would be helpful. I am interested in studying languages (and yes I'm aware of Midd's awesome languages programs). I also went to the Discover Midd diversity open house. I also got accepted UChicago today, so that half's done.

It comes down to size and location, IMO. You've been to both, so you know how different their locations are. The South Side of Chicago is quite different than rural Vermont. Also, student body size is a huge factor. UChicago is twice the size of Middlebury, and likely will have twice as many class offerings. But Middlebury is well known for its foreign language programs, so if you want a career that involves languages, then most in the field will know and respect a Middlebury degree.

Why not apply to both and see how the chips fall. If you get into Midd, then you'll have a tough decision to make.

Congrats on your acceptance. While UoC has extensive language offerings, the quality of the language curriculum is questionable. I have had negative reports about the French program, so check it out.

Other factors to consider are your feelings about the Chicago core curriculum, proximity to the city, and social climate.

thanks for the replies, and i haven't really gotten any feedback on UChicago's french program. actually i have not been to Chicago yet, but i am visiting in February. i really loved the french and arabic classes that i sat in on at Midd. and yes, the chicago core is WAY scary. i've tried to sort things out for the study of two languages, but the core makes it pretty difficult. i need to get into Midd first though. depending on financial aid, Midd is probably where i'll end up.
