Can anyone give me some guidance on the laptops required for incoming freshman? Do you have to purchase one of the six recommended laptops or can you purchase laptops with other spec's as long as it has one of the required operating systems? Any help would be appreciated!

It was our impression that any computer can be purchased as long as it meets the requirements. The four year on campus guarantee pushed us to one of the six recommended by Gburg.

You don’t HAVE to buy one of the 6, but I will tell you that my son had problems with his computer 2x first semester freshman year (1 time dropped it and hard drive broke while writing a paper, 2nd time tripped and screen broke). The IT Dept at G’burg was AWESOME! They knew exactly the problem on that laptop, how to diagnose it, the number at Dell to call for a replacement, extracted info he needed from hard drive AND I didn’t have to pay a dime. He was near tears when he thought he lost his paper, the IT Dept saved the day and it definitely helped that they were experienced with the laptop he had.

I’m going to echo what the rest said and just add that if you choose not to get a Dell (ie: you get a Mac instead) then the Tech team may not be able to help you if you have a problem with your computer. Also, I don’t know about now, but when I bought my computer from the school, they were a really good deal.
