Laptop, e-reader and printers?!

I'm looking at purchasing some new gadgets this fall when I enter college as a freshman bio major; I'm going to be dorming, and want to buy a laptop and an e-reader, but my dilemma is....

Mac VS. PC?
Kindle VS. Nook?

I've always used PCs at home, but during high school I used a Mac for a little while, and I liked the set-up. I've read online that my college is more Mac-friendly, but my worries concerning Macs are the cost and having programs like Microsoft Word installed. On the other hand, I'm a little tired of PCs, but they're not as expensive.

I've never had any experience with e-readers, though, and I would really like to buy one so I could put my textbooks on it. I would like to get one in color, but I don't know if the LCD screen's glare is going to be a problem.

I'm going to need to purchase a printer for my laptop as well, and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for some good printers for use in a (small) college dorm?

Thanks in advance!

A small and cheap HP printer is usually the way to go, one that only prints and only has two ink cartridges (black and tricolor). Basic HP printer’s like these are cheap to buy and cheap to refill, the print quality’s good, and they’re reasonably durable (mine lasted me 3 years, survived getting hit by a football pretty hard, and finally died when a dress shoe hit it).

And I’d go with a PC, if it’s what you’re used to. Software compatability probably won’t be an issue either way, but I’d imagine a PC would be more useful overall. Plus Macs are WAY overpriced, you can find a very nice HP Pavillion PC with virtually the same specs for nearly half the cost… Or if you want better, step up to a Lenovo Thinkpad or a HP Pavillion Elite Series.
