Hey Guys,

I am an incoming EECS major and it's getting to be around the right time to buy a laptop and I was wonder how most people use their computers around campus so I have some idea of
what 's important.
Do most people bring laptops to class to take notes?
Are there convenient places in the library to charge a laptop or is battery life very important? Do any of you guys recommend a size that works for you (easy to carry but big enough to work on)?
Any other advice to consider when getting a laptop?

Thanks!

I see some difficulties with using laptops to take notes:
- Internet Distractions
- It’s difficult to draw diagrams on a word processor.

i’ve got a macbook. I have never brought it to lecture.

A lot of EECS classes give you the lecture notes as a pdf before hand so you could use those to follow along with lecture. However as garfield says, you will with no doubt be distracted by having internet access.

I usually take notes on my laptop in my humanities classes. I type a lot quicker than I write, so it’s easy for me to follow along. I don’t use it for science and math classes though, because writing down calculations and drawing structures or diagrams takes too long.

I never take notes on my laptop. Just dont like to. Depending on which library you go to and where you sit there are charging spots. For the most part you will have a spot to charge. Size is personal preference. Personally I like 15inches. Some people think its too big or heavy but depends on which one you get too. I’d say there isn’t too much to consider for a laptop in terms of for school use. Pretty standard for that. Just get one you like and won’t mind carrying to class if you are one to take notes on a laptop
