Laptop question

Okay so those of you that already go there mainly...

What kind of laptop do you recommend? My dad keeps bugging me to find out exactly what kind I should get. Any recommendations??

Any place UMD is like, partnered with so I can get a good deal? Thanks!

I think Apple and Dell both give discounts.

Go to www.oit.umd.edu/Student/faq.html#ownership "for information on the university contract(s) for computer purchases. You are encouraged to adquire your computers through this process to take advantage of the increased on-campus support that is available for these computers." We got this information on the "Information Technology" sheet we received after accepting enrollment to UMD.

Your best bet to finding a good deal on a Laptop is to check out these following deal sites:

Slickdeals.net
Fatwallet.com
Anandtech.com

Go to those websites, click the links to their Forums, and choose the "Hot Deals" section.

Dell has been running extremely good deals lately. I actually resell Dell Desktops, Laptops, and Monitors.

Bestmom- thanks for the info on computers. CP should mail us that stuff..........but when I checked the site , the prices seem a little high... do you think they are a good deal? Seems like our local Best Buy may be cheaper, but I really like the idea of being able to have them serviced if needed right on campus. What do you think?

According to the UMD OIT site they are "currently working on a new and expanded program for discounted computer purchases. Please watch ( http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/purchasing/ ) and www.oit.umd.edu for information and updates."

This could explain why they have not push more of this information out. So it may pay to wait a bit longer. You can at least start checking UMDs minimum system recommendations. And yes, we like the idea of getting the computer serviced on campus with free loaner computer during "advanced" warranty work or replacement.

We have not had a chance to compare prices yet. As I said before we got the OIT link after S accepted enrollment.
