Laptop vs Tablet?

First off I have no clue where I should have posted this but couldn’t find anything of relevance. I wanted to know if laptops are used very regularly in college, especially for taking notes. I was thinking of getting a laptop but I just built a gaming PC that can handle anything college could possibly need/want; the problem being its a desktop so I cant take it to college with me. I want something to take notes with that’s light, cheap, and wont take up a lot of room in my backpack. Math is the only course I was planning on using a notebook for, and the rest using some device. So if i’m just looking for something to take notes with, which would be the better route? Also, which do you see college students with more?

For typing notes, you need a keyboard. A BT keyboard for tablet would be fine but you may also need other functionalities of a laptop. I got a 2 in 1 for my D in college, a good investment that would last 4 years.

My son also built a gaming PC that he couldn’t take with him. He ended up buying an Alienware laptop that he uses both for schoolwork and for gaming at school. Most kids have a laptop, not just for writing notes, but for researching and writing papers. Even if you’re a STEM major, you’ll have to take some humanities courses for your distribution requirements, and it’s easier to write a long paper on a laptop.

What is your idea of cheap?

Maybe an Asus Vivobook?

Or even cheaper Lenovo Ideabook?

I was thinking around 300 or less. I really like some of the Lenovo with the touch screen, but they seem to be very think or other wise 1k lol. My college uses something called Moodle.

A 2-1 being what? do you remember?

You’ll get a lot of different opinions, but i personally never use my tablet. I take notes by hand (i find i retain information better when i take notes by hand) and i like the ability to work from anywhere. A tablet is fine for consumption, but they can be painful to do actual work on.

You might be able to find a refurbished Surface 3 for about $300.
