Can anyone advise me which model/make of a laptop you would recommend for an incoming freshman at Andover?
What doe most current student use?
@oak2maple I’ll go ahead and comment, even though I attend Exeter, because the forum is kind of slow right now. To lend some insight, I’d say that more than half of the Exeter campus owns Macbook Pro’s (which range from 2011-present day models). But that isn’t to say that Windows users are affected whatsoever. I think Mac tends to be helpful because it’s simplistic and are easy to work on, but it depends whether or not you willing to pay the exorbitant price for one.
I don’t know if you’ve bought one yet already, but I’ll give you my take as an Andover student. It seems like 80% of people have a MacBook Pro, I have one too, but it’s like 5 years old and barely hanging on. I have seen many students with PCs as well, and there is certainly no issue with having one, I can’t think of any reason that it would affect your work. In some classes people use laptops to take notes, History is a big one, and sometimes in Biology. But since most other classes are not really all lecture, and if they are you need to use a lot of math stuff which is difficult to type on a laptop, so you will mostly use the laptop for typing essays. The PACC (PA computer center) is readily available to use when the library is open, and many students take advantage of it if they don’t want to lug a laptop around all day.
