We have found Furman's website very helpful in figuring out minimum computer requirements, but can't find anything on printer's. Can anyone give us advise on if we should purchase a printer or if printers are needed at Furman?

I am sure someone will give you a better answer than I can but just going on what was said during the tour we went on last year it is my understanding that all the printers in the library are free for student printing. My D is bringing one for her room but just because we have an extra.

My daughter took her printer. I don’t know how much she uses it, but we do cart it back and forth to the storage unit every summer which makes me think it is worth keeping in the room. Otherwise she would have sent it back home or given it away. Printing from library computers is free so it may be simply a matter of convenience.

My D did not buy a printer her freshman year since her roommate was bringing hers. After her roommate moved, however, D soon found that a printer in the room was more of a necessity than a luxury, at least for her. You can use the printers in the library, and they work great, however many students spend a lot of study time in their room and work on papers. It was very helpful to be able to print out her finished assignments in her own room and not have to run over to the library, especially during exam week.

The bottom line is you don’t technically need one in your room but it can be a huge time saver and convenience. Good luck!

I have had one for both my freshman and sophomore years, it’s definitely nice to have–especially if you forget to print something and need it printed in the morning. However, the library is less than a five minute walk from the residence halls so its not a big deal if you don’t have one either.
