Laptops

<p>im buying a new laptop for school and i will be a freshman at uw this fall</p>

<p>is there anything that i should be sure to buy? any programs that would be helpful at uw? specific components i should get?</p>

<p>i dont want to buy one then find out i should have gotten something else.</p>

You can probably find less expensive laptops if you go with different brands, but I'm guessing that for IBM Thinkpads and Apples, that is the best price you'll find. Look at the programs and hardware that they come with to get an idea of what you might be needing. Also, the UBooks prices on academic software are fabulous! Show your Husky card or letter of admission to get the discount.</p>

<p>If your major might require a particular computer or set of programs, the department administrator could tell you about that.</p>

<p>They do have a lot of computers available for use in the libraries, as well as some sort of writing center, so you can skate by for a while without a computer if need be. Or even all four years, but you won't have the Internet at your fingertips in your room :)</p>
