I'm looking for mid-large sized universities in a big city with strong programs in Arabic and international relations. I'd also rather be on the East Coast or California. I'm applying to Georgetown, GWU, and American, but I need to considering some more realistic options. I have about a 3.1 UW and a 27 ACT. I'd appreciate any recommendations that I could consider a match or safety with these stats. Thanks.

Ohio State

Not in California, but University of Washington may fit the bill.

Bump .

Is money an issue?

Depaul in Chicago is large, urban, with an Arabic major

Wayne State in Detroit should have a strong Arabic program.

Go to UCLA. They have an arabic major.

NYU Abu Dhabi.

Language Flagship

[The Language Flagship - Arabic](http://www.thelanguageflagship.org/arabic)

I have looked into the Flagship program, artloversplus, and it’s definitely something I’m considering.

NYU Abu Dhabi seems like an amazing opportunity, but money is an issue.

NYU Abu Dhabi is not worth it…yet. In 10 or 15 years, I think it will be a viable option. But Abu Dhabi is a boring city, lacking culture, freedom of thought and expression and social activity. I grew there and visit the city at least twice or three times each month. Abu Dhabi is a great place for children up to the age of 16 or 17. However, for college-aged students and your professionals, it really is not a fun place to live.

Academically, NYU Abu Dhabi is has a tiny faculty and offers very few classes. It will take at least 10 years before the Abu Dhabi campus is completed and has the faculty size and course offerings to make it an acceptable option.

On the plus side, Abu Dhabi wants to see NYU succeed and has the money to make it happen. We just need to give it time.

Georgetown would be perfect for the OP’s needs. It is not large, but with 7,000 undergrads and 7,000 graduate students, Georgetown is certainly not small.

If the OP is equally interested in Political Science, some excellent options include Chicago, Columbia, Michigan-Ann Arbor (not in a large city, but centrally located) and NYU (in NYC).

^ georgetown is definitely a great match for the OP’s needs, however a 3.1UW gives him/her little chance for many of the suggestions listed here including georgetown, Udub, UCLA, and NYU.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I agree with josebiwasabi about those schools not being realistic options. I’m looking for schools along the lines of GW and American (admissions-wise), even GW may even be a long shot at this point.

NYU Abu Dhabi. it’s a wonderful school that offers, unlike what has been said above, many many classes ([NYU Abu Dhabi Academics > Undergraduate Programs](<a href=“Undergraduate - NYU Abu Dhabi”>Undergraduate - NYU Abu Dhabi)) and has about 80 top-notch professors for the approximately 150 students in the inaugural class ([NYU Abu Dhabi Faculty](Faculty Profiles - NYU Abu Dhabi)). Concidering the location, it’s probably the best place to study Arabic. It’s their first year, so the school’s still pretty small, but by the time the permanent campus is completed (2014, not in 10 years! [NYU Abu Dhabi - Saadiyat Island](http://nyuad.nyu.edu/about/locations/saadiyat.island.html) ) it’ll be home to about 2000 undergrads and 800 graduate students.
It’s an option to consider.

And money isn’t be an issue. NYUAD is need blind, and has a very generous financial aid program. The majority of the kids in the inaugural class received full rides.

Good luck :)

Are there any admissions statistics for NYUAD?

Yes. This year’s acceptance rate was about 2.1% (189 accepted out of the 9048 who applied).

I would like to second Ohio State.
