I just want to testify that laser vision correction works! I got PRK's done on March 31st... I was 20/150 in my right eye and 20/175 in my left eye, and couldn't wear contacts (eyes too sensitive), and HATED how I looked in glasses. I am now 20/16 in my right eye and 20/20 in my left! Oh, and I'm still healing so it could get better, nevertheless, up to this point I can honestly say it has changed my life!

congrats! :)

but one thing i hear is that you have to get it done every 5 or so years. but not bad for having perfect+ vision!

Im not sure which procedure you got, but some procedures, even if done correctly, can cause the cuts made in the cornea to come apart one in awhile, causing a huge amount of pain. Dont mean to scare ya, but thats whats holding me back from the corrections.

I would love to do it, but the thing is my vision is 20/900 and 20/950 and I've heard that for really bad vision like that, the surgery won't correct it fully...is that true?

^^^I think that is pretty accurate, but you may be surprised about how much they can correct.

I got PRK, which doesn't create the flap, but is a much more painful recovery--with the same/better results, and no flaps to worry about.

Anyone know how big the risk is?

www.google.com is your best friend.

or, if you're lazy like me:

ndcountrygirl: It would probably be nice to just not be blind without your glasses anyway.

I've been thinking about it for a while, but I think I'd rather just wait a few years for it to be perfected.

I have a slight astigmatism so I can never have this surgery :(. I'd love to. I wear the highest prescription possible in my brand of contacts, which really isn't strong enough, but the other brand I tried made my eyes water continuously. Glad to hear you had success though! My neighbor is thinking about it- she heard you lose some depth of field.

yea im -3.5 in my left eye. im pretty blind.

^^if I could get my vision down to where you're at, I would be overjoyed! lol

I had a slight astigmatism in my right eye, but since they did custom laser correction, they fixed it. They can fix pretty much any astigmatism now with the custom lasers.

Wow your vision is wost than me. I think mine is like 20/545. It went up 100 points in 5 years I think, or less points in 5 years. I can't remember. Is there anyway to get better vision without seeing a doctor? I don't need perfect vision...I just want it down to about 20/300, if possible.

Can you get both astimagtism and myopia laser surgeries?

Does laser correction chip thin your lens? I would love to have 20/20 again.

So how do I find out what my vision is is 20/20, etc. form? My contacts are -7.00 and -6.75. I have the worst vision of anyone I know (including my own dad!). I wouldn't want to get it unless I could be free from any form of vision correction for a while.

I have read that it is good to wait till you're about 21 or so before getting these kinds of surgery. Apparently your vision pretty much stays constant from 21-40s.

Yeah my optometrist said to wait a few years after I'm 18 cuz my eyes are still growing. My vision is just about as bad as yours, princessbell.

I think mine's about -3.6 each eye. How much is that in terms of x/20?
