Last Chances Thread EVER (well, from me). I promise.

My final chances thread... I applied EA a few days ago. Tulane is my first choice, and I would have applied SCEA, but the fear of not being accepted, combined with pressure from my school's guidance office forced me not to do it. Anyway, I'm nervous... Really nervous... Please let me know what you think...

Essay is extremely strong (I've also sent along extras) and my reccomendations should be decent. Applying as an English/Writing major and hopefully minoring in Italian and/or poli sci.

I've also visited campus, attended a Tulane Comes to You event, met my admissions counselor, and have maintained contact with him.

You should get in easily, I would think. At least based on what you have posted. I see no significant weaknesses. You should even get some merit money, although not sure it will be the $25K. Honors Program invitation is also probably borderline, but I think you have a shot. Again, I would be quite surprised if you are not offered admission.

yeah, you’re definitely in… I wouldn’t worry!! your SAT scores are strong, courseload exceptional, great extra-currics (except slight weakness in community service, which is huge at Tulane), essay is strong… and having shown that dedication to Tulane, you’re a shoo-in and have a great shot for the Honors Program; as a fellow applicant, good luck!!

Thanks, fallenchemist and amr (although a bit delayed)… my application showed complete yesterday, so I guess that means we can start the countdown. Hoping for good news, similar to what you predict.

Your stats & location are almost identical to my son’s, who got accepted into the class of 2013 and is loving every moment of it. Good luck.

MartiniGirl - So glad to hear your son is doing so well! That means there are at least 2 in the class of 2013 that are loving it at Tulane, lol.

I would be incredibly surprised if you weren’t accepted. I don’t see any reason why the admissions committee would do that- great SATs + GPA + tough curriculum + extracurriculars + interest? You’ll probably have a shot at money, too!

Fallen and Martini – make that 3 extremely happy Tulanians-2013. My D is home now for TGiving and can’t stop talking about her (brief) time there.

So very excellent gator!! Really satisfying to hear.

You’ll get in. No doubt.

Thanks everyone! I’m so happy that the class of 2013 seems to love Tulane so much! I’ve heard so much about the happiness of the students at Tulane; I’d love to experience that myself.

Yep, I am with my D in NOLA now (had a delicious meal at K-Paul’s, including the famous Turducken that he only makes once a year. Eat your hearts out lol). She just seems fabulous and switched from one glowing conversation about her classes to another about going with her friends into the French Market to another about rebuilding a church… well you get the idea. She is totally psyched that she got all the courses she wanted for next semester too, snagged the last slot in one of them. The advantages of being in the Honors Program I guess.

I don’t usually post on CC but you got me with Turducken. My son is also in the class of 2013 and having a very positive 1ST semester.Had a great meal at K-Paul’s on Parents weekend but please elaborate on on your meal.I would highly recommend Tulane

Pelicanbrief - welcome to the CC family. Well, turducken is a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey, each stuffed with 3 different dressings; corn bread, oyster, and an andouille sausage variety. It was great, along with the other dishes such as a blackened drum fish and a variety of side dishes, such as crawfish bisque.

Really glad to hear your son is having such a good experience at Tulane.

I just have one more question…

If my status changed to complete on 11/23, when should I be expecting my decision? The “normal” two-week turn around would put me at 12/7, but with the Thanksgiving holiday and the influx of applications around the deadline (and the fact that my app took nearly a month to show complete), should I expect to hear around 12/15 instead?

It is really hard to say. Everything I hear says things are taking longer than usual because they have so many apps. In the end, other than for your sanity, does it matter if it comes in a week or a month? I think you will just have to be patient. Really, the only question for your app, unless we are missing something, is if you get merit aid and how much. I see no way you do not get accepted. So try and relax, it will all unfold soon.

Nope, it’s just for my sanity. Haha. But thanks for your continued optimism. It would be nice to know, for sure, my decision sooner rather than later, but there’s really no difference in two weeks. So I’ll hang on and wait. :)

I know it usually only seems that time flies by to parents, but even my D and other kids I have talked to say that they cannot believe that at this time last year they were just finishing up apps and waiting for the first decisions, etc. And they really can’t believe they are almost done with their first semester. Finals after this week! So yeah, it will all be happening before you know it.
