Last Class

Hi,

I am going to be a senior this upcoming school year. However, I am having trouble choosing my last class.

I am one of those kids that wants to take as many AP classes as I can, to mix learning with a GPA booster and potentially college credit.

Right now, I am slated to take AP Calc AB/BC, AP Lit, AP US Gov, and marine tech (standard)

I am interested in an engineering major for college but unsure which field of engineering I want to do.

Early decision applications for the A. James Clark School of Engineering, my desired school, are due in December. Semester 1 grades are finalized in January.

So while another AP class may not affect my GPA before applying, the college should see that I am currently enrolled in another arguably rigorous schedule for my senior year.

Which brings me to my problem: what my last class should be:

Easiest AP class available is Environmental Science, which would boost my GPA and also be a relatively simple class.

AP Comparative Government is an option, but would taking AP US Gov and AP Comp Gov be at the same time be a problem?

AP Economics is also an option, I want to get into investing and economics more as I get older, I'm already in the stock market. However, I've heard the material is very dry.

AP Pyschology is a class that, while it has nothing to do with my field, it could help me with my people skills for the future. Also, statistics show about 69% of students who took the AP exam passed, so college credit shouldn't be a problem with some studying.

AP Biology is apparently very hard, but a lot of memorizing which I am good at. I also enjoyed Honors Biology.

AP classes I have already taken and are not options are: Stat, Comp Sci, World History, US history, Physics B, and English Lang.

All feedback is appreciated, and always open to hearing other options I have not listed. Thanks in advance!

You’re in high school. You don’t have a field. Don’t think that way. I suspect even your college will have distribution requirements.

AP Bio would be the most impressive.
Which one do you find most interesting, though?

Most interesting would be Bio and Pyschology. Both would likely have a heavy workload though and junior year was a harsh lesson in picking a balanced schedule.

I’m trying to balance what colleges would admire, my workload, and college credit basically and most of the choices are good for some of these but bad in others. That’s where I am stuck

I’m guessing Physics C isn’t an option? AP statistics and/or psychology seems like your best option unless you really want to challenge yourself, then go with Bio. However, if you enjoyed Honors Bio then you might also like the more advanced version.

I enjoyed the material of Physics B, but unfortunatley did not like the teacher, who also teaches Physics C.

Already took statistics in sophomore year so basically the options I stated in my original post are all that are available.

Bio does seem exciting yet challenging. Honors Bio was interesting and relatively simple. Balancing the workload is a key, so while I’m now leaning towards bio, it would still be a very rigorous schedule not unlike the one I experienced junior year…
