Last Minute Colleges To Add

Hello,
I am a senior in high school and have applied to five colleges and have gotten into two which are my fallbacks. I have applied to Northeastern, Simmons, and Lewis & Clark. I am waiting to hear back from them. I have been accepted to Western Washington University and UW-Bothell but would never want to attend either. Therefore, I am a bit in a senior panic if I don't get accepted to the three I am applying to. Any suggestions for colleges to add to my list? Here are my credentials below. Thanks!

GPA: 3.05 (Go to one of the most rigorous private schools in the Pacific Northwest)
SAT: 1810 (CR:570 M:600 W:640)
Activities:
- Founder and President of the school service club
- track and field member for both freshman and sophomore year
- played jv soccer for my public high school freshman year
- assistant coach for my middle school soccer team freshman through senior year
- worked at a law firm for the past three summers
- volunteer at a nonprofit food distributor for three hours a week the entire year (over 100 hours of volunteering and have an administrative position at the nonprofit)
- part of the newspaper club for two years

Awards:
- Rotary Club Student of the Month
- Most Improved Track and Field Member

What I am Looking For:
preferably a small school in a big city
good career preparation program
not that much of a party school
solid psychology, business, or social work program

It seems you have your 3 that you would be happier to go to then? So it seems you only really need a safety that you want to go to. What is the budget?

Yes, that is correct  I want to go to any of the three listed above but I’m worried if I don’t get into one, I will be in a bad position since I really don’t want to go to any of the safeties I got into. Finances are not an issue for me. Thanks for your help!

I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to attend WWU. I met a couple, one L&C grad, the other from WWU. Both had good careers and fully enjoyed their college time. They both argued about whose school was more beautiful.

I just feel like I would be lost in the crowd. When I visited it seemed huge. My parents think UW-Bothell is a better school and everyone I talk to disagrees. I just feel like either school would be a bad choice for me.

I did not check selectivity but have you looked at Whitman?

I have. I think it would probably be too selective at me this point since I have not expressed any interest and I am a Washington resident

If you are interested in smaller schools in a big city how about LMU and Occidental in LA?

UW Bothell is not that big – about 4,000 undergraduates. However, it appears to be growing by about 400 students per year, though it would not get to large size before you graduate.

<a href=“Fast Facts 2022-23 - About UW Bothell - UW Bothell”>http://www.bothell.washington.edu/about/facts

UW Tacoma also is not that big.

What about USF you would be right in SF. Your scores are solid for them. Your gpa is low according to reported data but that may be offset by your school report from a rigorous school and rigor of your schedule. Your service ECs will be valued. The school is solid, the business students do pretty well I think, and all college have psych and sociology. Social Work is a master’s program, MSW.

If you’re open to women’s colleges consider Mills College, in Oakland, CA. Small school in a big city, which lacks a large party scene, and is strong in psychology and sociology. I’m not sure about its business program or the career preparation. Also unsure about how safe the surrounding area is.

If you’re open to schools which have some proximity to a city but their own distinct campus, you may also want to check out St. Mary’s College of California, a small school in the Bay Area. HUGE on social justice, and a safety school for you.

The University of San Francisco could also be worth considering. Good business program, and located in San Francisco. Almost all of the classes are small (still there’s a greater percent than the LACs on your list), and the many members of the student body have a certain “edge” which you seem to want based on your choices of Lewis & Clark and Simmons.

Other suggestions:
-St. Edward’s University (Austin, TX)
-Eckerd College
-Westminster College (Salt Lake City, UT)
-Goucher College (Baltimore, MD)
-Agnes Scott College (Atlanta, GA)
-Drake University (Des Moines, IA)

Thank you all for replying! I am thinking of applying to USF. I am not sure about the others listed above. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions! @whenhen‌ I like your thought about the edge that the schools have. I love the strong social justice feel those schools have. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

What about Eugene Lang/New School in NYC?

Please make sure you run the Net Price Calculators on the schools that interest you. Make sure a place is affordable before you fall in like with it.

Most of the Jesuit colleges are mid-sized universities typically with small classes in/near major cities and they have no Greek life which may suit you. Look at the schools on the list below and see where you fit in in terms of academic statistics and geographic preferences. You might also look into Siena College near Albany, NY.

Do you think University of Denver would be a good fit based on my criteria? Loving these comments. Thanks!

Yes I do, and if you’re interested in the University of Denver, also consider American University.

What about Wilammette? Or University of Puget Sound? If you like the LA area, take a look at LMU and Chapman.

My parents don’t like chapman. I am looking at ups but the only problem is it’s in Tacoma
