Last minute FAFSA Q

So at the last minute, I realized that my D will indeed be filing taxes in order to get back the taxes that were withheld from her pay. She is not required to (only made $3500). When I went back to do the last look at the FAFSA before I submitted it, I changed her financial from 'will not file' to 'will file' and FAFSA sent me to a 'worksheet' to determine her exemptions. I pulled out my 'How to pay for college without going broke' bible and I answered "0". Did I do this right? She is indeed claimed on someone else's taxes. I think I've officially gone crazy from tax/FAFSA/CSS overload!

Thanks in advance...

Yes, you’re right. She will get the standard deduction of $5800 but will claim no exemptions since you’re claiming her on your taxes.

Thank you!

It seems like there is a question either on the FAFSA or CSS Profile that also asks if the student filed a income tax return, but did not HAVE to. Your daughter fits that description as well, as long as any investment income is below the requirement as well (going by memory, I think it is around $950).
