My friend's S turned in his application to Rice one day late. I believe it was due Jan. 1 and he sent it Jan. 2. They are hoping that since it was due over the holiday they would not be in the office and accept it. His mom doesn't dare contact them because it might alert them that it was late. Does anyone have any experience with accepting a late application? Thanks!

How was it turned in? If via commonapp, you can see whether was downloaded by the school.

Normally, Rice also gives you a web logon to check on whether all documents were received. When people are admitted, any aid information is also obtained through the same logon. So a web logon should be assigned if the application was received.

Thanks for info. I thought as much and also told them to check via assigned log on. But S hadn’t checked or hadn’t thought of checking as of yesterday. Hope it’s going to be OK for him.

If he was assigned a log on, then Rice considers him a valid applicant. They do need to make sure the application is complete.
