To make a long story short(er), I’m a senior from Michigan who began the college application process back in August. Most of the schools I applied to were out-of-state, and unfortunately, it just seems as if very few schools are working out right now costwise.
I know it’s late to be doing this, but as UCF’s priority deadline is open until January 15, I’m probably going to be submitting an application. I know very little about the school, so if anyone could please chance me on odds of acceptance, honors college, and scholarships, I’d greatly appreciate it!
GPA: 3.99 unweighted
Class rank: 1 of 132
ACT: 34 composite
5 AP classes (all my school offers) with other advanced/honors coursework
In terms of honors/awards, I’m a three-time DECA state champion and took first in the world at the 2014 International Conference in Atlanta. I also am an academic all-league selection for varsity soccer and I’m a Coca-Cola Scholars semifinalist.
I haven’t written any essays for UCF yet, but even with my time crunch here think I can write some creative standouts.
Please let me know what you think and if it is worth it to apply. Please keep in mind that as an out-of-stater, I would only be able to attend if I received significant merit-based aid.
My D2 (MN resident) got $11,000 per year and she doesn’t have your stats. Perhaps there are issues regarding timing of application and availability of funds but you should still go for it - it’s a relatively easy application to fill out.
I’m curious, however - you have two really great universities in your home state - you have applied to UMich and MSU, correct?
@mwoolley17 you can still apply as UMich regular deadline is Feb. 1 and Michigan State is rolling (I think). However, you are past those earlier deadlines for maximum scholarship consideration. You should still apply, though, because with your stats you might still get good $$$ and you would at most pay the in-state amounts of around $13,000.
Check out University of IA as well because they have really great scholarships for OOS students. Rolling admissions and a very quick turnaround in admission decision. For most awards you are automatically considered but there are a few that you need to apply for (not sure of deadlines).
D2’s scholarship at UCF makes her tuition effectively $11,000 for four years (but her program will be five years and she will need to pay OOS amounts that last year). If you are able to get something that waives even more OOS tuition AND finish in four years that would definitely be a good thing.
