I was not aware of FAFSA deadline for many of the colleges I applied to, ending up having sent the forms a week after the supposed "deadline," Feb. 1st. Am I in big trouble now, or will the colleges overlook this mistake?

as far as admission is concerned, its not even a factor.

however, more often than not college financial aid offices do not consider late applications. youre not screwed for admission, but for financial aid you may be.

"however, more often than not college financial aid offices do not consider late applications."

Thats not true. U can send it in anytimne late. The thing is u wont be in the 'Priority Filing' meaning that ur aid package may or most probably will not come by the first week of April. U may get it just short of May 1st, the universal response date, or even after that if you accept.

http://www.fafsa.com/lateapps.htm

Most school financial aid administrators award their limited need-based grants, loans and work programs on a first-come, first-served basis and normally have published deadline dates or priority filing dates which you will want to meet. To be safe, it is recommended that you apply in January each year using estimated income information.

http://www.fafsa.com/deadlines.htm

Missed a Deadline? You may be OK

It is common for many schools and state and federal government agencies to have a secret, internal date they use to determine if someone is "early" or "late." They may give students and parents who mailed their FAFSA an extra week or so after a published deadline date before they consider you late as they know that it is common for people to wait until the last minute to mail things, mail delivery is delayed and difficult to monitor, and they don't want to have to fight with people over imperfect and impossible-to-administer deadline dates.

However, with more students and parents filing their FAFSA electronically, more school financial aid administrators can determine the specific date your FAFSA was filed and will not grant exceptions to their deadline dates for online FAFSA filers.

Don't assume you are going to get any breaks on a deadline date and complete your FAFSA online or mail a paper FAFSA early.

Katrina or Wilma will cut you some slack.

I hate FAFSA. I just wanted to say that. I filed my FAFSA online January 15th (because apparently USC was due the 20th), and they told me it was processed. By chance, I called a few days ago for them to send it to Princeton as well, and they told me there had been an error with my application and it had never been processed- even though the freaking website says it's processed. So I had to reapply and now I'm waiting for it to be processed (again), so I can send it to more colleges (again). They told me colleges would see that I had finished it early, but that still might not help me for financial aid. Basically, I am going to die because my expected family contribution is like $6000.

Are you serious... hmm... but my expected family contribution is $0. ERrrgh, what do I do!!!! A@$#U%

Hopefully, if they want you badly enough and see that you really do need money, they'll at least try to accomodate you with Work Study. I wouldn't mind work study... :-( My mom won't let me do loans, so no help there.

What if u submitted ur FAFSA a couple days before the deadline, but u mailed ur signatures through the mail...which wouldnt get there til after the deadline?

I also thought that most deadlines were on February 15th, and that it was a "universal deadline" :(. I was planning on submitting it by the 1st, just to be safe, but was waiting for my taxes to be completed. I finally got everything in on the 4th-6th.

I looked on specific sites...

Dartmouth has a deadline of February 15th for the FAFSA. The Profile is required, but I couldn't find a deadline. The College Board site says February 1st.

Cornell has a deadline window of February 10th to May 1st. I am guessing priority is given to those who submit earlier. The College Board site says February 11th.

Vassar has a profile deadline of the February 1st and a FAFSA window of January 1st to April 19th. The College Board site says February 1st.

Wesleyan has an overall financial aid deadline of February 15th. The College Board site says February 1st.

Grinnell has a deadline of February 1st. Of late applications, they say "The FAFSA must be mailed to the processing center no later than February 1. You may estimate in order to meet deadlines. Failure to list Grinnell College may result in a delayed award." The College Board site concurs.

Bard has a deadline of February 15th. The College Board site says February 1st priority deadline, and February 15th deadline.

Oberlin has a deadline for the Profile of February 15th. They don't mention the FAFSA, but I'm guessing it's the same. College Board site says January 15th...

Moral of the story? Don't forget about financial aid deadlines, and always check the sites themselves, or other sources might scare you. I might be screwed, however, with Vassar and Wesleyan. We'll see.

my FAFSA formed is like a week late and i'm done but i don't have my PIN number yet. I don't want to send in a signature so i'm just waiting. How bad is that in terms of being late?
