Late highschool graduate

I feel like I’m in a real crisis situation and don’t know what I should do. In highschool I had great test scores, great essay writer but emotional and family problems got in the way of that being reflected on my grades and attendance. The end of senior year approached and my credits were not in line. My plans of attending a 4 year university in the fall were crushed and I had to complete another semester. So at this point the position I’m in is that I want to start at a university in the fall, out of state in state it doesn’t matter I just feel like I’m a year behind and in applying too. I can apply now but my transcript looks awful apart from the last year. I mean I was involved in a lot of extra curriculars, volunteering, and Im a good test taker and writer but I also know my grades were horrible other then the last semester. I know I could do enriching activities, internship, summer classes, traveling, volunteering and such to make my application look better but then it wouldn’t be too late to put on my application, you get what I’m saying? So aside from that any universities that except later admissions or lenient. I don’t know I’m just really stressed I don’t know what to do I can’t find any councillors to help me. I apologize for the weird sentence structure and all that but any help would be greatly appreciated !!

To be clear… You were a senior for the 2014-15 school year, but have had to stay in HS to make up credits? Have you actually made an appointment with a counselor? Or are they literally ignoring you? There are a lot of colleges with rolling admissions. Do a search here on CC, a list will come up. You need to look at the middle 25-75% of students and see if your GPA falls within that school’s average range. If it doesn’t you might have a more difficult time. Did you have good ACT or SAT scores? Your high school counselor will have to send your transcripts, so you really must talk to him or her. Walk into your school’s counseling center and make an appointment. Bring a parent with you, if possible.

You don’t want to hear this, but I think it might be best to start at community college and do well. Then try to transfer into a state Uni after a year of good grades, that accepts credits from a CC. Or take a gap year and try out some of those things you mentioned. I think it might be really helpful if you do not throw yourself into a university environment right now. Sounds like you are just starting to get back on track. It seems as though you are a bit fraught. There is no time limit on starting and finishing college. It took me six years. I was put on academic probation and did a lot of dropping and ditching classes. Thank goodness I finally wised up. My point being, I wasn’t ready to go right into a four year college and I am glad I started out at CC. Ask yourself if you are ready to be disciplined in your work ethic? Are you ready for much harder work than you had in high school? Are you ready to go to classes at 8 am as a 19 year old? Are you ready to stay up until 3 am to get a paper done?

I am now an adult with two teens. I don’t regret spending 6 years getting a BA. To use a nice quote from another CC poster, there is no right path to adulthood. The world isn’t passing you by. You are young and have plenty of time to catch up.

What is your cum GPA? What are your scores? What is your home state? How much can your family afford?
